Nov. 4 (UPI) — A California state judge has sentenced a father who claimed his son had been abducted to 25 years in prison as authorities continue to search for the missing infant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jake Mitchell Haro, 32, of Cabazon, was sentenced Monday by Judge Gary Polk at the Riverside Hall of Justice, located in Riverside, Calif., about 55 miles east of Los Angeles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Polk also sentenced Haro to 180 days for filing a false police report and ordered him to pay $10,000 in restitution. He received credit for 551 days served.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was also sentenced to an additional six years for a previous child abuse case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All sentences were ordered to run consecutively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Haro\u2002pleaded guilty<\/a> Oct. 16 to charges of murder, child endangerment and filing a false police report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The charges stem from his wife, Rebecca Haro, telling police that their 7-month-old child, Emmanuel Haro, was kidnapped from the parking lot of a Big 5 Sporting Goods store in Yucaipa on Aug. 14. Rebecca told authorities she was attacked while changing Emmanuel’s diaper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A search was launched for the child, but authorities quickly determined the kidnapping did not occur and said they believe Emmanuel is deceased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Both Jake and Rebecca were arrested<\/a> on Aug. 22 on suspicion of murder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “The search to recover his remains is ongoing,” the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office said in a release announcing the pair’s arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n SUSPECT 1: Jake Mitchell Haro, 32-years-old, Resident of Cabazon, CA SUSPECT 2: Rebecca Renee Haro, 41-years-old, Resident of Cabazon, CA VICTIM(S): Emmanuel Haro, seven-month-old Infant of Cabazon, CA<\/p>\n\n\n\n This investigation began on August 14, 2025, as a reported kidnapping at the… pic.twitter.com\/u75jgrFKtz<\/a>\u2014 San Bernardino County Sheriff (@sbcountysheriff) August 22, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n Rebecca has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and filing a false police report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “The lies told in this case only deepened the tragedy of Emmanuel’s death,” Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “While today’s sentence represents a measure of accountability for Jake Haro, our office will continue to seek justice as the case against his co-defendant moves forward.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Rebecca’s next hearing is scheduled for Jan. 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The search for Emmanuel’s remains continues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
