President Trump is at odds with ranchers and their Senate allies after announcing plans to import beef from Argentina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump sent a message to cattle ranchers Wednesday, defending his tariff policies<\/strong> and urging American ranchers to lower their prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe Cattle Ranchers, who I love, don\u2019t understand that the only reason they are doing so well, for the first time in decades, is because I put Tariffs on cattle<\/strong> coming into the United States, including a 50% Tariff on Brazil,\u201d Trump posted on Truth Social.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIf it weren\u2019t for me, they would be doing just as they\u2019ve done for the past 20 years \u2014 Terrible<\/strong>!\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n Trump announced plans last week to import beef from Argentina, a move meant to reduce beef prices domestically and aid the bankrupt country ahead of its elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But Trump is facing pushback from some Republican senators for his proposal, which they call misguided and harmful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNebraska\u2019s ranchers cannot afford to have the rug pulled out from under them when they\u2019re just getting ahead or simply breaking even,\u201d wrote Sen. Deb Fischer<\/strong> (R-Neb.) on social media Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI strongly encourage the Trump administration to focus on trade deals that benefit our [agricultural] producers\u2014not imports that will do more harm than good.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The National Cattlemen\u2019s Beef Association <\/strong>also took exception to Trump\u2019s Wednesday comments, accusing him of \u201cundercutting\u201d U.S. ranchers and compromising the domestic market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAmerica\u2019s cattlemen and women operate in one of the most competitive marketplaces in the world. U.S. cattle producers are proud to provide the safest, highest-quality beef on earth,\u201d the organization wrote in a Wednesday post on the social platform X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
