President Trump\u2002<\/u><\/a>on Sunday told Navy sailors not to \u201cworry about\u201d their paychecks that are being held back by the current government shutdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs your commander in chief, I will always stand for you. I promise you that,\u201d Trump said at a celebration of the Navy\u2019s 250th anniversary. \u201cYou know that, that\u2019s why you voted for me in numbers that nobody\u2019s ever seen before. And I want you to know that despite the current Democrat-induced shutdown, we will get our service members every last penny.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDon\u2019t worry about it. Don\u2019t worry about it. Don\u2019t worry about it. Do not worry about it, it\u2019s all coming,\u201d the president added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The federal government formally went into a shutdown Wednesday in the wake of congressional leaders failing to come to a deal on a stopgap spending bill, leaving lawmakers struggling on how to move forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Federal employees, including service members, have either been furloughed or are working without pay until the shutdown ends. All will receive back pay at that point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Multiple federal departments<\/u><\/a> have put out messaging blaming<\/u><\/a> Democrats for the shutdown, with a message<\/u><\/a> on the Department of Health and Human Services\u2019s (HHS) website saying that \u201cmission-critical activities of HHS will continue during the Democrat-led government shutdown.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

House Speaker Mike Johnson\u2002<\/u><\/a>(R-La.) on Sunday said his chamber \u201cdid its job\u201d in the recent government funding battle. Last month, the House passed what Johnson described as a \u201cclean\u201d and \u201cnonpartisan\u201d stopgap spending bill that would fund the government through late<\/u><\/a> November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe House did its job,\u201d Johnson said in an appearance on CBS\u2019s \u201cFace the Nation.\u201d \u201cThe reason that House Republicans are home working in their districts, and I suspect House Democrats should be as well, is because we did that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe passed a bipartisan, very clean continuing resolution a couple of weeks back now, and sent it to the Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Senate returns to Washington on Monday and will vote again on two funding bills that could reopen the government. Both failed twice last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
