{"id":46691,"date":"2025-08-27T22:10:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T03:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=46691"},"modified":"2025-08-28T00:11:55","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T05:11:55","slug":"trump-administration-plans-new-four-year-time-limits-for-foreign-students-in-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=46691","title":{"rendered":"Trump administration plans new four-year time limits for foreign students in US"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The Trump administration is planning a new four-year time limit for foreign students in the U.S., the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2025\/08\/27\/trump-administration-proposes-new-rule-end-foreign-student-visa-abuse\"><u>announced on Wednesday<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">According to the release, a proposed rule was unveiled by the administration on Wednesday \u201cthat, if finalized, would limit the length of time certain visa holders \u2013 including foreign students\u2013 are allowed to stay in the United States.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cFor too long, past Administrations have allowed foreign students and other visa holders to remain in the U.S. virtually indefinitely, posing safety risks, costing untold amount of taxpayer dollars, and disadvantaging U.S. citizens,\u201d a spokesperson for the DHS said in the release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThis new proposed rule would end that abuse once and for all by limiting the amount of time certain visa holders are allowed to remain in the U.S., easing the burden on the federal government to properly oversee foreign students and their history,\u201d the spokesperson added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The statement also says that the U.S. government, via the proposed rule, would limit foreign students\u2019 time allowed in the country to four years or less.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cSince 1978, foreign students (F visa holders) have been admitted into the U.S. for an unspecified period known as \u2018duration of status.\u2019 Unlike other visas issued, those with a \u2018duration of status\u2019 designation are allowed to remain in the U.S. for an indefinite amount of time without further screening and vetting,\u201d the DHS said in its press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cIn turn, foreign students have taken advantage of U.S. generosity and have become \u2018forever\u2019 students, perpetually enrolled in higher education courses to remain in the U.S.,\u201d the DHS added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Throughout the first few months of his administration,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/donald-trump\/\"><u>President Trump\u2002<\/u><\/a>and his administration have intensely cracked down on immigration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Secretary of State&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/marco-rubio\/\"><u>Marco Rubio\u2002<\/u><\/a>said last Thursday that the administration was pausing all issuance of worker visas for foreign truck drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cEffective immediately we are pausing all issuance of worker visas for commercial truck drivers.
