Comedian Bill Maher\u2002<\/u><\/a>warned Democrats on Friday about President Trump\u2019s\u2002<\/u><\/a>recent comments, in which he said his administration is \u201clooking at\u201d reclassifying marijuana as a less dangerous drug.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNew rule, I told you so. I\u2019ve been telling Democrats for years, \u2018The Republicans are going to steal pot from you as an issue,\u2019\u201d Maher said on his HBO show<\/u><\/a> \u201cReal Time,\u201d in comments highlighted by Mediaite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maher played a clip of Trump\u2019s comments in which he said, \u201cWe\u2019re looking at reclassification, and we\u2019ll make a determination.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat\u2019d you expect? He is the master at winning votes from small groups who are passionate about one issue, picking up a couple percent here, a couple there, until on election night, it\u2019s \u2018YMCA,\u2019\u201d Maher said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhile Democrats offer up high-minded intangibles like equity and saving the soul of America, Trump says, \u2018Hey, waitress, how\u2019d you like to pay no tax on those tips?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reclassifying marijuana as a less harmful drug would<\/u><\/a> continue work started under the Biden\u2002<\/u><\/a>administration, which began the process to make marijuana a Schedule III drug last year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marijuana wouldn\u2019t be legalized via a Schedule III designation, but criminal penalties would be reduced. It would allow for new research opportunities and let pharmaceutical companies take part in the sale and distribution of marijuana where it is legal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
