Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Todd Lyons said on Wednesday that the federal law enforcement agency will \u201cflood the zone\u201d with immigration agents in Boston after Mayor Michelle Wu\u2002<\/u><\/a>(D) fired back<\/u><\/a> at President Trump\u2019s\u2002<\/u><\/a>administration over the city\u2019s sanctuary policies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re definitely going to, as you\u2019ve heard the saying, flood the zone, especially in sanctuary jurisdictions,\u201d Lyons said in an interview on \u201cThe Howie Carr Show.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBoston and Massachusetts decided to say that they wanted to stay [a] sanctuary. Sanctuary does not mean safer streets. It means more criminal aliens out and about the neighborhood. But 100 percent, you will see a larger ICE presence,\u201d the acting ICE director told host Howie Carr. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wu said on Tuesday that Boston will not \u201cbow down to unconstitutional threats or unlawful coercion\u201d from the federal government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe U.S. Attorney General asked for a response by today, so here it is: stop attacking our cities to hide your administration\u2019s failures,\u201d the Boston mayor said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her comments came after Attorney General Pam Bondi\u2002<\/u><\/a>sent out letters<\/u><\/a> to 32 state and local governments last week, known as \u201csanctuary jurisdictions,\u201d including Boston, saying they could have their federal funding dismissed or face legal action if they do not cooperate with the administration\u2019s immigration crackdown. Bondi set the deadline for a response from the city for Tuesday this week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe did Operation Patriot March, which yielded over 1,000 arrests, and now you\u2019re going to see more ICE agents come to Boston to make sure that we take these public threats out that she wants to let go back in the communities,\u201d Lyons said. \u201cWe\u2019re going to keep making America safe.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boston enacted the Boston Trust Act in 2014, which bars local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement agents, particularly around arresting migrants in the country illegally who are on civil warrants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
