Republicans who are following state and federal laws will not be lectured by people who abused the system,\u201d Johnson&nbsp;wrote&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MikeJohnson\/status\/1957444067182477612\"><u>in a statement on the social platform X.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cI have instructed the NRCC to use every measure and resource possible to fight the California&nbsp; Democrats\u2019 illegal power grab,\u201d he continued, referring to the House Republicans\u2019 campaign arm. \u201cI will continue to lead efforts to defend our House Republican incumbents and grow our majority so that we can continue to deliver on our commonsense, America First agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">A&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GovPressOffice\/status\/1955654178556223673\"><u>statement from Newsom through his press office on X<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;ridiculed Johnson in response, referring to the Louisiana Republican as \u201cLITTLE MAN.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cWHEN SPEAKER \u2018LITTLE MAN\u2019 JOHNSON IS STANDING IN \u2018THE UNEMPLOYMENT LINE,\u2019 HE CAN THANK DONALD \u2018TACO\u2019 J. TRUMP. TRUMP MISSED A SIMPLE DEADLINE \u2014 SOMETHING HE HAS OFTEN DONE WITH HIS MANY FAILED BUSINESSES \u2014 NOW CALIFORNIA WILL \u2018FIRE\u2019 HIM WITH NEW, \u2018MORE BEAUTIFUL MAPS,\u2019\u201d Newsom said, writing his post to mock Trump\u2019s style of writing on Truth Social.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cHIGHLY ANTICIPATED, \u2018HISTORIC\u2019 PRESS CONFERENCE WITH YOUR FAVORITE GOVERNOR GAVIN CHRISTOPHER NEWSOM!!!! THANK YOU FOR YOU ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. \u2014 GCN,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">California Democrats&nbsp;proposed a new&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/5455610-newsom-gop-redistricting-fight\/\"><u>set of congressional lines on Friday,<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;which aim to neutralize the gains Texas is expected to make with their new proposed House map.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Because the Golden State uses an independent redistricting commission to draw its House map, Democrats are looking to place the map before voters in a special election this November to get around the redistricting commission and do a mid-decade redrawing of their House maps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The moves in California came in response to Texas, as the White House has pushed the Lone Star State and other GOP states to redraw their House maps ahead of 2026. Republicans are bracing for a challenging midterm environment and are looking to offset potential losses next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Unlike California, Texas only needs to pass new maps through the state legislature before it heads to Texas Gov.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/greg-abbott\/\"><u>Greg Abbott\u2002<\/u><\/a>(R) for his signature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Democrats have argued they need to do redistricting in response to Texas, saying their party has to fight fire with fire. Both parties have been criticized for taking the opportunity to redraw their House maps and both have been guilty of gerrymandering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Johnson is not the only Republican who\u2019s signaled he\u2019s against California\u2019s move.
