Former New York Gov. David Paterson\u2002<\/u><\/a>(D) said Tuesday he is set to endorse New York City Mayor Eric Adams\u2002<\/u><\/a>in his reelection bid amid a heated race for Big Apple mayor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019ll be at one o\u2019clock on the steps of City Hall, at which time I will endorse Mayor Eric Adams for reelection,\u201d Paterson said on the \u201cCats & Cosby\u201d radio show, discussing Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd as you knew, I wanted to endorse Eric Adams back in the beginning of 2024 when that camp\u2014 mayoral campaign for 2025 started to really pick up,\u201d Paterson continued. \u201cBut then, after his indictments and the other issues that happened in those next few months, I endorsed the former governor, Andrew Cuomo,<\/u><\/a> because next to Adams, he would have been my second choice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Cuomo was seen as the most likely victor in New York City\u2019s Democratic primary for mayor, New York Assembly member Zohran Mamdani\u2002<\/u><\/a>came out on top in the June race to be the Democratic mayoral nominee in a shock upset. Mamdani\u2019s victory drastically changed the dynamics of the New York City mayoral race, with both Adams and Cuomo now running as independents.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In early July, Paterson likened Mamdani\u2019s success as the city\u2019s Democratic mayoral candidate to President Trump\u2019s political rise a decade before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe support that Mamdani is receiving \u2026 the number of people he\u2019s registering, the number of people who go to his rallies \u2026 if I blinked my eyes 10 years ago, there was another person who was able to do that, and his name is Donald Trump,<\/u><\/a> whose political ideology is the polar opposite of what Mamdani\u2019s might be,\u201d Paterson said during the \u201cCats Roundtable\u201d radio show at the time<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Siena College poll released Tuesday<\/u><\/a> shows Mamdani<\/u><\/a> leads in the\u2002mayoral race<\/u><\/a> by almost 20 points in a five-person field as opposition to the state lawmaker\u2019s bid continues to be split among multiple candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The poll shows<\/u><\/a> Mamdani leading by 19 points over his next-closest opponent<\/u><\/a>, Cuomo,<\/u><\/a> 44 percent to 25 percent. Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa\u2002<\/u><\/a>was considerably behind them<\/u><\/a> with 12 percent, followed by incumbent<\/u><\/a> Adams\u2002<\/u><\/a>with 7 percent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cuomo has called for the candidates to coalesce behind whichever of them appears to be the strongest in a head-to-head match-up with Mamdani based on polling next month, which surveys suggest would likely be the former governor. But Adams and Sliwa have been consistent that they will not drop out of the race. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
