{"id":44827,"date":"2025-07-15T19:09:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T00:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=44827"},"modified":"2025-07-15T22:10:51","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T03:10:51","slug":"massie-moves-to-force-vote-on-releasing-epstein-files","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=44827","title":{"rendered":"Massie moves to force vote on releasing Epstein files"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Rep.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/thomas-massie\/\"><u>Thomas Massie\u2002<\/u><\/a>(R-Ky.) on Tuesday said he would try to use a long-shot procedural gambit to force a vote on requiring the Department of Justice to release files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The move comes as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/donald-trump\/\"><u>President Trump\u2002<\/u><\/a>and his administration face blowback from many within the GOP base over their handling of information about the disgraced financier, and as Trump attempts to tamp down the amount of attention the issue is receiving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cWe all deserve to know what\u2019s in the Epstein files, who\u2019s implicated, and how deep this corruption goes. Americans were promised justice and transparency,\u201d Massie said Tuesday in a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepThomasMassie\/status\/1945237281096229095\"><u>post on the social platform X<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cWe\u2019re introducing a discharge petition to force a vote in the US House of Representatives on releasing the COMPLETE files,\u201d he added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Massie\u2019s resolution, co-sponsored by Rep.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/ro-khanna\/\"><u>Ro Khanna\u2002<\/u><\/a>(D-Calif.), would require Attorney General&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/pam-bondi\/\"><u>Pam Bondi\u2002<\/u><\/a>to \u201cmake publicly available in a searchable and downloadable format all unclassified records, documents, communications, and investigative materials in the possession of the Department of Justice, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and United States Attorneys\u2019 Offices\u201d that have links with Epstein within 30 days of the measure becoming law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">It also says the files cannot \u201cbe withheld, delayed, or redacted\u201d should they cause \u201cembarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity, including to any government official, public figure, or foreign dignitary.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">A discharge petition requires 218 signatures to bypass House leadership and force a vote on a measure. Such petitions are rarely successful, with members of the majority often hesitant to buck their own leaders, and it is rare to see a member of the majority lead the charge on such an effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Massie, however, hasn\u2019t been shy about bucking both Speaker&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/mike-johnson\/\"><u>Mike Johnson\u2002<\/u><\/a>(R-La.) and Trump. He has most recently opposed the White House\u2019s strikes on Iran and voted against Trump\u2019s \u201cbig, beautiful bill,\u201d leading Trump to threaten an effort to oust him in the midterms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Khanna, meanwhile, has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/5399532-epstein-files-trump-bondi-khanna\/\"><u>led the charge on the Democratic side<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;in calling for a House vote to release the Epstein files.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Right-wing influencers who have long pushed conspiracy theories about Epstein recently turned their fury toward the Trump administration, especially Bondi, due to a recent Justice Department&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/5388484-epstein-maga-influencers-memo\/\"><u>memo seeking to dispel those theories<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The memo from last week said no evidence existed that Epstein had a \u201cclient list\u201d or that he tried to blackmail powerful figures implicated in his crimes.
