Sen. Tim Scott\u2002<\/u><\/a>(R-S.C.) rejected concerns that President Trump\u2002<\/u><\/a>is going \u201ctoo easy\u201d on Russian President Vladimir Putin,<\/u><\/a> as the White House works to broker a ceasefire between the Kremlin and Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview on \u201cFox News Sunday,\u201d anchor Shannon Bream\u2002<\/u><\/a>asked the senator, who sits on the Foreign Relations Committee, about criticism from a French news outlet over the Pentagon\u2019s pause on some deliveries<\/u><\/a> of air defense missiles and munitions to Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bream quoted the outlet, which reported, \u201cThe White House not only halted a planned shipment of arms to Kyiv, it deliberately bypassed existing sanctions to offer economic relief to Russia\u2019s nuclear giant Rosatom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bream added: \u201cWhat do you make of this accusation that President Trump has made things too easy on President Putin? Can he, should he, make things tougher?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell, Shannon, the only word I can think of is hogwash,\u201d Scott replied, noting that Trump\u2019s predecessors \u2014 former Presidents Obama\u2002<\/u><\/a>and Biden\u2002<\/u><\/a>\u2014 took actions that \u201cset President Trump up in a poor posture.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPresident Trump has done what he has always done, which is to focus on solutions and looking for ways to end the conflict,\u201d Scott continued. \u201cWe just heard him say Putin is killing thousands of people unnecessary.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why he\u2019s been in constant communication, trying to de-escalate the situation. And at the same time, having Secretary Hegseth focus on our responsibility of keeping Americans safe here at home and abroad,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asked whether this is the best time to be withholding weapons deliveries to Ukraine \u2014noting it appears Putin has taken the pause as an opportunity to scale up attacks on Ukraine \u2014 Scott said he has complete confidence in Trump\u2019s ability to navigate the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no doubt that President Trump can be trusted on solving some of the major conflicts around the world,\u201d Scott said, pointing to progress in Gaza peace talks and his strikes on Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scott also said he expects weapons shipments to resume following the Pentagon\u2019s review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI trust President Trump to get the job done. That means that we start here at home. The level of escalation around the world requires Secretary Hegseth to take a look at our weaponry and make sure we\u2019re prepared for defense,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI believe that after that time has elapsed, that we go back to providing the resources necessary,\u201d Scott added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
