{"id":44436,"date":"2025-07-06T13:10:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-06T18:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=44436"},"modified":"2025-07-06T20:22:20","modified_gmt":"2025-07-07T01:22:20","slug":"miran-us-vietnam-deal-fantastic-extremely-one-sided","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=44436","title":{"rendered":"Miran: US, Vietnam deal \u2018fantastic,\u2019 \u2018extremely one-sided\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Stephen Miran, chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisors, praised the tariff deal between the United States and Vietnam, calling it \u201cextremely one-sided.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">During an appearance on ABC News\u2019s \u201cThis Week\u201d on Sunday, Miran was asked about President Trump\u2019s progress on tariff deals as he rapidly approaches his&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/administration\/5382592-trump-trade-deals-tariff-deadline-hardball\/\"><u>July 9 deadline.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">While he said he remains optimistic that he will secure \u201ca number of deals\u201d this week, he praised the U.S. deal with Vietnam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThe Vietnam deal was fantastic,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s extremely one-sided. We get to apply a significant tariff to Vietnamese exports. They\u2019re opening their markets to ours, you know, applying zero tariff to our exports. It\u2019s a fantastic deal for Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The deal&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/5384297-china-reacts-to-us-trade-deal\/\"><u>sets the tariff rate<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;on the country at 20 percent, with Vietnam giving the U.S. tariff-free access to its markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">It also seeks to prevent third countries, such as China, from laundering their exports through Vietnam, imposing a 40 percent tariff on goods that originate from a country with a higher import tax rate and are shipped through Vietnam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">When pushed on whether any other deals would be on the table this week, Miran said countries are \u201cnegotiating in good faith.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cMy expectation would be that countries that are negotiating in good faith and making the concessions that they need to, to get to a deal, but the deal is just not there yet because it needs more time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/blog-briefing-room\/5386853-miran-us-vietnam-deal-fantastic-extremely-one-sided\/\">thehill<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stephen Miran, chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisors, praised the tariff deal between the United States and Vietnam, calling it \u201cextremely one-sided.\u201d During an appearance on ABC News\u2019s \u201cThis Week\u201d on Sunday, Miran was asked about President Trump\u2019s progress on tariff deals as he rapidly approaches his&nbsp;July 9 deadline.
