Democratic Rep. Dina Titus\u2002<\/u><\/a>(Nev.) said on Wednesday that the GOP megabill backed by President Trump will have an adverse impact on gamblers due to its tax provisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The big, beautiful bill text would strike previous deductibles by 10 percent, according to the senate passed version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 90 percent deduction cap would require someone who wins $100,000 and loses $100,000 to pay $10,000 in taxes, despite their profit loss. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt pushes people into the black market if they don\u2019t do regulated gaming because they have a tax disadvantage, and the black market doesn\u2019t pay taxes, isn\u2019t regulated, doesn\u2019t help with problem gaming, so it\u2019s bad for the industry as well as for the player,\u201d Titus said during a Wednesday appearance on NewsNation\u2019s \u201cThe Hill.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nevada lawmaker said the House approved GOP legislation was \u201cbad enough for my constituents.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said the newly added language \u201cadds insult to injury\u201d in a bill that would strike health care provisions, Pell grants and renewable energy measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere\u2019s still a bias against gaming. And we found it and thought, well, this is not good for people who enjoy coming to Las Vegas to gamble. We\u2019re not talking about only professional poker players,\u201d Titus said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re talking about, you know, the average people who want to play a game of poker or pull a slot machine handle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Titus said all would be impacted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professional poker player Phil Galfond echoed her concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is really bad. Whether you\u2019re a poker player, [Daily fantasy sports] player, a sports better, any kind of gambler \u2013 professional or recreational \u2013 but especially professional. And even if you are an operator in one of these areas. It\u2019s quite scary,\u201d Galfond said in a Tuesday video<\/u><\/a> on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCompletely untenable. You can\u2019t be a professional gambler in the U.S. if this goes through. And that will have a ripple effect on industries that depend on professionals,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professional player Doug Polk\u2002<\/u><\/a>urged Rep. Chip Roy\u2002<\/u><\/a>(R-Texas) to strike the clause from the bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cChip, I am in your district. There is a provision in the Senate version that will kill professional gambling. This will negatively impact THOUSANDS of Texans,\u201d Polk wrote in a Tuesday post<\/u><\/a> on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPlease look at this and help remove this senseless provision.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Titus said she\u2019s going to try to get it taken out and added that if it doesn\u2019t go back to the House Rules Committee for review, she\u2019ll introduce a separate bill to address the revision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
