Rep. Kat Cammack (R-Fla.) on Wednesday said her offices were evacuated due to \u201cimminent death threats against me, my unborn child, my family, and my staff,\u201d which she claims \u201cerupted\u201d following a news report about her ectopic pregnancy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Wall Street Journal published an article<\/u><\/a> on Sunday where Cammack shared the challenges she faced getting treatment for a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy in May 2024. Doctors estimated at the time that she was just five weeks pregnant, but there was no heartbeat. She said medical staff had initially resisted treating her because they were worried about violating Florida\u2019s near-total abortion ban, which had recently taken effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She is pregnant again and is due in the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Since the article was published, Cammack said in a Wednesday post on X<\/u><\/a>, \u201cWe\u2019ve received thousands of hate-filled messages and dozens of credible threats from pro-abortion activists, which law enforcement is actively investigating. In light of recent violence against elected officials, these threats are taken very seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Florida\u2019s six-week abortion ban is among one of the most restrictive<\/u><\/a> in the country and effectively amounts to a complete ban. Six weeks gestation is before many women know they are pregnant, and the state requires two in-person visits with the abortion provider 24 hours apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The law does not ban procedures for ectopic pregnancies, but its wording made doctors hesitant, according to the Journal\u2019s reporting. Florida regulators have since given out guidance<\/u><\/a> to address \u201cmisinformation\u201d about the state\u2019s ban.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
