{"id":43801,"date":"2025-06-21T03:39:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-21T08:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=43801"},"modified":"2025-06-21T05:20:59","modified_gmt":"2025-06-21T10:20:59","slug":"eruption-at-hawaiis-kilauea-volcano-sends-lava-shooting-1000-feet-in-air","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=43801","title":{"rendered":"Eruption at Hawaii&#8217;s Kilauea volcano sends lava shooting 1,000 feet in air"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Hawaii&#8217;s Kilauea volcano is erupting again in spectacular fashion, sending lava shooting 1,000 feet into the sky, according to the United States Geological Survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">On Friday morning, &#8220;Episode 26&#8221; of the ongoing eruption at Halema\u02bbuma\u02bbu &#8212; the pit crater within K\u012blauea Caldera at the summit of the volcano &#8212; spewed lava fountains that reached massive heights, according to the USGS&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usgs.gov\/volcanoes\/kilauea\/volcano-updates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hawaiian Volcano Observatory<\/a>.<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/latest-kilauea-eruption-shoots-lava-1000-feet-air\/story?id=122230394\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Episode 26 was preceded by small, sporadic spattering and lava overflows, according to the USGS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Kilauea, one of the most active volcanoes in the world and located on the Big Island, has been especially active in the last several months, erupting dozens of times since December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In May, Kilauea also spewed leva more than 1,000 feet. On June 11, eruptions at Kilauea measured at more than 330 feet, according to the USGS.<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/kilauea-volcano-erupting-remote-area-hawaii-volcanoes-national\/story?id=113806533\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The current eruption began at 1:40 a.m. local time, with lava fountains and flows erupting from the north vent, according to the USGS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The eruption is flowing into a remote area of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Flows have been confined to the Halema\u02bbuma\u02bbu crater and the southwest side of Kaluapele, K\u012blauea&#8217;s summit caldera.<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/kilauea-active-hawaiian-volcano-erupt-stomp-rocket-toy\/story?id=110545217\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The USGS issued a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usgs.gov\/observatories\/hvo\/news\/volcano-watch-what-are-volcano-alert-level-and-aviation-color-code\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">volcano watch<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 known as a code orange \u2013 which means that an eruption is either likely or occurring but with no, or minor, ash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Volcanic gas emissions and tephra &#8212; fragments of rock, minerals and glass &#8212; from the lava fountain may be distributed south of the caldera, due to the winds blowing from the north, the USGS said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Other hazards include Pele&#8217;s hair &#8212; strands of volcanic glass often produced by lava fountaining activity &#8212; crater wall instability, ground cracking and rockfalls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">K\u012blauea&#8217;s\u202fcaldera rim surrounding\u202fHalema\u02bbuma\u02bbu\u202fcrater has been closed to the public since 2007 due to such hazards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/eruption-hawaiis-kilauea-volcano-sends-lava-shooting-1000\/story?id=123043948\">abcnews<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hawaii&#8217;s Kilauea volcano is erupting again in spectacular fashion, sending lava shooting 1,000 feet into the sky, according to the United States Geological Survey.
