{"id":43310,"date":"2025-06-09T21:25:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-10T02:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=43310"},"modified":"2025-06-09T22:28:37","modified_gmt":"2025-06-10T03:28:37","slug":"hardline-house-conservatives-swing-for-fences-in-asks-to-senate-gop-on-megabill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=43310","title":{"rendered":"Hardline House conservatives swing for fences in asks to Senate GOP on megabill"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Hardline conservatives in the House are making a broad swath of recommendations to make the \u201cOne Big Beautiful Bill\u201d of President Trump\u2019s tax cut and spending priorities even more conservative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">A 10-page memo labeled to Senate Republicans from \u201cHouse Conservatives\u201d \u2014 with input from members of the House Freedom Caucus while not being officially from the group \u2014 and shared with The Hill shows the hardliners swinging for the fences with numerous suggestions to change the megabill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Those include some controversial suggestions that were previously rejected by the House, like putting restrictions on the Medicaid Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP) that was expanded under ObamaCare; and further reigning in the ability of states to extract more federal Medicaid matching dollars through provider taxes imposed on health care providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">They call for ramping up the repeal of green energy incentives \u2014 a position opposed by just over a dozen House GOP moderates, who&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/energy-environment\/5337575-freedom-caucus-green-energy-cuts\/\"><u>wrote<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;to the Senate last week to request that leaders \u201cimprove\u201d the green energy tax credits rather than eliminate them<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The memo calls to scale back the increase to the state and local tax (SALT) deduction, which the bill increases from $10,000 to $40,000 with a phase-out for income above $500,000 \u2014 a compromise reached after intense and testy negotiations with blue-state republicans, and a measure considered critical to ensuring the bill makes it to the president\u2019s desk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">And it pitches increasing a new 3.5 percent tax on remittances that migrants send to their home countries, among other measures \u2014 some of which were not fully explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cWhile the House OBBB limits certain benefits for illegal aliens, it does not fully end all taxpayer-funded benefits they receive, and it should,\u201d the memo says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">It closes: \u201cOther Matters Deserving of Consideration That We Are Not (Sufficiently): a) Fed pays interest to banks (Trillions), b) Higher remittance fees (up to point, Billions), c) Prohibition on foreign \/ China land ownership not restricted enough, d) Other.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The House cleared the \u201cOne Big Beautiful Bill Act\u201d last month, moving it through a special budget reconciliation process that bypasses the need to get Democratic support in the Senate. Senate Republicans are expected to make changes to the bill, which the House will have to vote again to approve before it heads to Trump\u2019s desk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Leaders have set a goal of rubber-stamping the bill by July 4 \u2014 a timeline seen as ambitious by many in the GOP and their allies outside Congress as different factions in the party jockey over its provisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/5341366-house-conservatives-senate-gop-megabill\/\">thehill<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hardline conservatives in the House are making a broad swath of recommendations to make the \u201cOne Big Beautiful Bill\u201d of President Trump\u2019s tax cut and spending priorities even more conservative.
