{"id":42785,"date":"2025-05-27T08:24:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-27T13:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=42785"},"modified":"2025-05-27T21:14:36","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T02:14:36","slug":"npr-sues-trump-says-funding-cut-violates-first-amendment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=42785","title":{"rendered":"NPR sues Trump, says funding cut violates First Amendment"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">WASHINGTON, May 27 (Reuters) &#8211; National Public Radio and three Colorado public radio stations are suing the Trump administration over the president&#8217;s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/sustainability\/society-equity\/trump-signs-order-that-aims-cut-funding-npr-pbs-2025-05-02\/\"><u>executive order<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;to cut federal funding for public broadcasting, NPR said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">U.S. President Donald Trump&#8217;s order against NPR and fellow public broadcaster PBS earlier this month barring the use of Congressionally appropriated funds violated the First Amendment, it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">&#8220;The intent could not be more clear \u2014 the Executive Order aims to punish NPR for the content of news and other programming the President dislikes,&#8221; NPR CEO Katherine Maher said in a statement. &#8220;This is retaliatory, viewpoint-based discrimination in violation of the First Amendment.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Aspen Public Radio, Colorado Public Radio, and KSUT Public Radio also joined the lawsuit, according to the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Representatives for the White House could not be immediately reached for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/media-telecom\/npr-sues-trump-over-order-cut-funding-2025-05-27\/\">reuters<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON, May 27 (Reuters) &#8211; National Public Radio and three Colorado public radio stations are suing the Trump administration over the president&#8217;s&nbsp;executive order&nbsp;to cut federal funding for public broadcasting, NPR said on Tuesday.
