Trump administration on Sunday of bullying his city after the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/crt\/media\/1400811\/dl?inline\"><u>Department of Justice<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;(DOJ) flagged it for potential racial discrimination in hiring city workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThis is a clear demonstration of not just animus, but intimidation,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/the-weekend\/watch\/chicago-mayor-on-doj-investigation-clear-demonstration-of-intimidation-240281669504\"><u>Johnson said<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;during an interview on MSNBC\u2019s \u201cThe Weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The DOJ\u2019s Civil Rights Division&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/state-watch\/5309400-chicago-doj-investigation-hiring-racism\/\"><u>launched an investigation<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;into the city\u2019s hiring practices on Monday after Johnson touted Black city leaders during remarks at the Apostolic Church of God in Chicago last weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThere are some detractors that will try and push back on me and say, \u2018The only thing the mayor talks about is the hiring of Black people.\u2019 No. What I\u2019m saying is, when you hire our people, we always look out for everybody else,\u201d Johnson, who is Black,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EricLDaugh\/status\/1924545889399414939\"><u>told the congregation<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;in remarks that went viral online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/crt\/media\/1400811\/dl?inline\"><u>sent a letter to Johnson<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;on Monday that cited those remarks as \u201csuggesting that you have made hiring decisions solely on the basis of race.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cIf these kinds of hiring decisions are being made for top-level positions in your administration, then it begs the question whether such decisions are also being made for lower-level positions,\u201d Dhillon, an ally of President Trump who unsuccessfully ran to lead the Republican National Committee in 2023, wrote in the letter. \u201cWe intend to consider all relevant information, and we welcome your assistance in helping to identify what that might be.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Johnson called the move \u201cdramatic\u201d and accused Trump of trying to \u201cstifle and silence the voice of resistance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cWe remain firm that we will not be intimidated by this tyrant,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cHis actions have certainly been inimical to the interest of working people, but we\u2019re not going to cower to his hostility.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a
