Even some kin of Coretta Scott King\u2002hate the new $10 million sculpture\u2002just dedicated to her and her iconic civil-rights-leader husband in Boston \u2014 with a cousin claiming it \u201clooks like a penis.\u201d
\nThe massive bronze piece,\u2002titled \u201cThe Embrace,\u201d\u00a0features two sets of arms holding each other, an artistic interpretation of the classic photo of\u00a0Coretta and hubby Martin Luther King Jr.\u2002hugging after he won the Nobel Peace Price in 1964.
\n\u201cThe mainstream media \u2026 was reporting on it like it was all beautiful, \u2019cause they were told they had to say that,\u201d Seneca Scott, Coretta\u2019s cousin, told The Post by phone Sunday, referring to the new artwork in The Boston Commons.
\n\u201cBut then when it came out, a little boy pointed out \u2014 \u2018That\u2019s a penis!\u2019 and everyone was like, \u2018Yo, that\u2019s a big old dong, man,\u201d said the 43-year-old Oakland, Calif., resident.
\n\u201cIf you had showed that statute to anyone in the \u2019hood, they\u2019d have been like, \u2018No, absolutely not.\u2019 \u201c
\nThe artwork\u2019s funding was the result of a public\/private fundraising partnership, the city of Boston\u2002said on its online site.\u2002It\u2019s unclear how much public money may have gone into the sculpture.
\n\u201cWhen we recognize that all storytelling is an abstraction, all representation is an abstraction, hopefully it allows us to be open to more dynamic and complex forms of representation that don\u2019t stick us to narrative that oversimplifies a person or their legacy, and I think this work really tries to get to the heart of that,\u201d\u2002the artist says on his Web site.
\nBut Seneca told The Post, \u201cThe woke algorithm is just broke, I don\u2019t know what else to tell you.
\n\u201cIf you went through all of that and that\u2019s what you came up with, something\u2019s wrong,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
