India struck Pakistani-controlled territory early Wednesday in response to a massacre of tourists in an Indian-controlled territory last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The missile attack left eight people and one child dead, as well as multiple others wounded, according to The Associated Press<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Indian government, in a press release, claims it was striking infrastructure used by militants, where it states <\/strong>\u201cterrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The U.S. Embassy of India said<\/u><\/a> no Pakistani civilian, economic or military targets were hit, noting India only targeted \u201cknown terror camps.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pakistan\u2019s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in a post on the social platform X<\/u><\/a> called the strikes \u201ccowardly attacks\u201d and said they were \u201cat five locations in Pakistan.\u201d He added that Pakistan \u201creserves the absolute right to respond decisively to this unprovoked Indian attack.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Attaullah Tarar, Pakistani federal minister for information and broadcasting, claimed the attack<\/u><\/a> was on \u201cinnocent civilians and mosques within Pakistan.\u201d He added that \u201cArmed Forces of Pakistan are delivering a crushing response\u201d to the missile attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Officials from both governments are claiming three Indian jets and one drone were shot down, though the claim has not been confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Pakistan Foreign Affairs Office called the attack \u201cunprovoked,\u201d also stating that the attack targeted the \u201ccivilian population.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Secretary of State Marco Rubio\u2002<\/u><\/a>said he is monitoring<\/u><\/a> the situation \u201cclosely,\u201d standing by President Trump\u2019s comments<\/u><\/a> earlier in the day that he hopes the conflict between the two countries ends soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Rubio added that he \u201cwill continue to engage both Indian and Pakistani leadership towards a peaceful resolution.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tensions between the two countries heightened following a militant attack last month in the Indian-controlled part of the Kashmir region, which has been a disputed area between India and Pakistan for decades. The attack left 26 people dead.
