WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 Lawyers for\u00a0President Joe Biden\u00a0found more\u00a0classified documents\u00a0at his\u00a0home in Wilmington, Delaware, than\u00a0previously known, the\u00a0White House acknowledged\u00a0Saturday.
\nWhite House lawyer Richard Sauber said in a statement that a total of six pages of classified documents were found during a search of Biden\u2019s private library. The White House had said previously that only a single page was found there.
\nThe latest disclosure is in addition to the discovery of documents found in December in Biden\u2019s garage and in November at his former offices at the Penn Biden Center in Washington, from\u00a0his time as vice president. The\u00a0apparent mishandling of classified documents and official records\u00a0from the Obama administration is under investigation by a former U.S. attorney,\u00a0Robert Hur, who was appointed as a\u00a0special counsel\u00a0on Thursday by\u00a0Attorney General Merrick Garland.
\nSauber said in a statement Saturday that Biden\u2019s personal lawyers, who did not have security clearances, stopped their search after finding the first page on Wednesday evening. Sauber found the remaining material Thursday, as he was facilitating their retrieval by the\u00a0Department of Justice.
\n\u201cWhile I was transferring it to the DOJ officials who accompanied me, five additional pages with classification markings were discovered among the material with it, for a total of six pages,\u201d Sauber said. \u201cThe DOJ officials with me immediately took possession of them.\u201d
\nSauber has previously said that the White House was \u201cconfident that a thorough review will show that these documents were inadvertently misplaced, and the president and his lawyers acted promptly upon discovery of this mistake.\u201d
\nSauber\u2019s statement did not explain why the White House waited two days to provide an updated accounting of the number of classified records. The White House is already facing scrutiny for waiting more than two months to acknowledge the discovery of the initial group of documents at the Biden office.
\nOn Thursday, asked whether Biden could guarantee that additional classified documents would not turn up in a further search, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters, \u201cYou should assume that it\u2019s been completed, yes.\u201d<\/p>\n
