Harris\u2019s Met Gala look selection was custom-made by the clothing brand Off-White. A photo featured in Vogue\u2019s reporting on Harris\u2019s attendance at the event shows the former vice president in a floor-length dress split between black and white at her right shoulder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Harris\u2019s selection of Off-White, a brand founded by<\/u><\/a> legendary Black designer Virgil Alboh, is notable given this year\u2019s<\/u><\/a> Met Gala theme of exploring Black style through \u201cTailored for You.\u201d This year\u2019s gala is the first to specifically focus on Black designers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vogue has said that this year\u2019s Met Gala theme looks through the tailoring of clothing when it comes to shaping Black identities, featuring a focus on the \u201cemergence, significance, and proliferation of the Black dandy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cArt has always had a significant impact on not just culture, but also our policies and politics,\u201d Harris told Vogue. \u201cArtistic expression\u2014whether it\u2019s dance, music, visual arts, or fashion\u2014has a way of capturing the mood and language of the people without words. Art has the power to shape the conversation about where we are today and where we need to go.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ibrahim Kamara, Off-White\u2019s art and creative director<\/u><\/a>, told Vogue in a statement that for him, \u201cthe true core of dandyism is rooted in confidence and strength.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is no person who exemplifies these characteristics more than Kamala D. Harris, someone who has overcome adversity and continues to be a beacon for so many,\u201d Kamara added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cKamala Harris\u2002<\/u><\/a>stuns at the Met Gala,\u201d the official account for the Democratic Party said in a post on the social platform X on Monday featuring the same photo<\/u><\/a> of Harris as in the Vogue reporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
