President Trump\u2002<\/u><\/a>weighed in on whether the U.S. will enter a recession, saying during an interview that \u201canything can happen,\u201d but argued country\u2019s economic state will be \u201cOK\u201d in the long-term. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump, during an interview<\/u><\/a> with NBC\u2019s \u201cMeet The Press\u201d that will air in full on Sunday, first dismissed concerns about the nation entering a recession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRemember this. Look, yeah, it\u2019s everything\u2019s okay. What we are. I said, this is a transition period. I think we\u2019re going to do fantastically,\u201d Trump told moderator Kristen Welker\u2002<\/u><\/a>on Friday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He then responded in the negative when asked by Welker whether he is concerned about an economic recession. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Welker then asked if it might take place, Trump said \u201canything can happen, but I think we\u2019re going to have the greatest economy in the history of our country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Trump\u2019s tariffs looming over the global economy, the U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) shrank<\/u><\/a> during the first quarter of 2025 by 0.3 percent. Some of the biggest titans and analysts on Wall Street have cautioned<\/u><\/a> that the country could head into a recession due to the president\u2019s sweeping trade policies,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell, you know, you say, some people on Wall Street say\u2026 Well, I tell you something else. Some people on Wall Street say that we\u2019re going to have the greatest economy in history. Why don\u2019t you talk about them?\u201d Trump asked Welker during the interview. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump pinned the volatility in the stock market on former President Biden and denied that the turbulence ensued because of the tariffs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is Biden\u2019s Stock Market, not Trump\u2019s. I didn\u2019t take over until January 20th. Tariffs will soon start kicking in, and companies are starting to move into the USA in record numbers. Our Country will boom, but we have to get rid of the Biden \u2018Overhang,\u2019\u201d Trump wrote<\/u><\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump first upset the world\u2019s trade alignment by first imposing tariffs on the U.S.\u2019s biggest trading partners, Mexico, Canada and China. He then imposed large reciprocal tariffs<\/u><\/a> on dozens of countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He halted<\/u><\/a> the sweeping tariffs for most countries for 90 days to leave room for negotiations, but kept flat 10 percent import tax. Trump also escalated<\/u><\/a> the trade war with China, hiking duties to 145 percent on all goods that come from the world\u2019s second-largest economy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
