Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz\u2002<\/u><\/a>(D) said he is \u201cvery pessimistic\u201d about Democrats winning back the Senate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walz joined<\/u><\/a> Harvard University\u2019s Kennedy School Institute of Politics on Monday to discuss the future of the Democratic Party and the Trump administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was asked by ABC News reporter and discussion moderator Brittany Shepherd about his midterm election predictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think we will take back the House,\u201d Walz said. \u201cI am very pessimistic about the Senate, just to be honest with you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith the way things work, I think it\u2019s a very difficult look.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walz noted that former Sens. Sherrod Brown\u2002<\/u><\/a>(D-Ohio) and Jon Tester\u2002<\/u><\/a>(D-Mont.) were not able to escape voters\u2019 view of the Democratic Party in the most recent election, both ultimately losing their seats in Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe thing was, is being associated with national parties and things on these state races, we\u2019re going to have to figure that piece out of, how do we reimagine,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walz highlighted that there are 14 Republicans in vulnerable districts<\/u><\/a> where Democrats won at the top of the ticket.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He argued there will be a point where some have to distinguish themselves from President Trump\u2002<\/u><\/a>to appeal to voters to be reelected in the midterms. Some Republicans have already changed course<\/u><\/a> on issues like Medicaid as they see the matter as important to voters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walz has attempted to generate enthusiasm and make use of Americans\u2019 frustration with the Trump administration\u2019s actions so far by hosting town hall discussions<\/u><\/a> across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think there\u2019s a lot of wind at our back, but it\u2019s been 100 days of destruction,\u201d he said. \u201cYou think we can survive 550 more? That\u2019s the real challenge. That\u2019s how long it is \u2018til the midterm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
