Michigan Democratic Rep. Shri Thanedar\u2002<\/u><\/a>announced Monday he had filed articles of impeachment against President Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have introduced articles of impeachment against President Trump,\u201d Thanedar said in his announcement online<\/u><\/a>. \u201cWhen Trump ignores the Constitution, Congress, and the courts, he is not \u2018fighting for America.\u2019 He is tearing it down and endangering our democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanedar said he was introducing seven articles of impeachment against Trump for various actions, including the deportation<\/u><\/a> of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the man mistakenly sent to El Salvador, and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cutting funds without<\/u><\/a> congressional approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The articles of impeachment are unlikely to go anywhere in the GOP House, where Republican support would be needed to win a vote on the articles. The House votes on whether to impeach a president, while the Senate votes on whether to convict a president. In the Senate, where the GOP also has a majority, a two-thirds majority is needed to win a conviction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, the introduction of the articles of impeachment highlights just how angry Democrats are with Trump on a range of issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump\u2002<\/u><\/a>has already done real damage to our democracy, but defying a unanimous 9-0 Supreme Court ruling, that has to be the one final straw,\u201d Thanedar said, referencing a decision on the Abrego Garcia case. \u201cIt\u2019s time we impeach Donald J. Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanedar said among Trump\u2019s impeachable actions were his steep tariff agenda<\/u><\/a> impacting global markets, his treatment of reporters<\/u><\/a> and the First Amendment, his bribery and corruption in the justice system, and his obtaining of Americans\u2019 personal data<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cArticle seven, tyrannical overreach,\u201d Thanedar said. \u201cFinally, and most importantly, he is attempting to consolidate unchecked power and erode the constitutional limits of the presidency,\u201d Thanedar said.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn this country, we have presidents, not kings. That\u2019s not just misconduct. It\u2019s impeachable misconduct,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Concern has grown among Democrats after the Trump Organization unveiled \u201cTrump 2028\u201d<\/u><\/a> hats on its website in support of the president\u2019s suggestion that he could seek a third term<\/u><\/a> in office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf we let this stand, we are saying the president is above the law. That the United States Constitution is optional,\u201d Thanedar said. \u201cI won\u2019t be silent and I\u2019m calling on all my colleagues, Democrats, Republicans and independents, to stand up with me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEnough is enough. Donald J. Trump must be impeached,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
