{"id":41460,"date":"2025-04-24T19:51:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-25T00:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=41460"},"modified":"2025-04-24T22:54:57","modified_gmt":"2025-04-25T03:54:57","slug":"confidence-in-trumps-handling-of-the-u-s-economy-plummets-new-polls-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=41460","title":{"rendered":"Confidence in Trump\u2019s handling of the U.S. economy plummets, new polls show"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Just 37% of Americans approve of President Donald Trump\u2019s handling of the economy, according to a new Reuters\/Ipsos survey, lower than at any point during his first term.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">About 59% of Americans disapprove of Trump\u2019s tariffs on goods from most other countries, per a Pew Research Center survey.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">There is a partisan split in Americans\u2019 confidence in Trump\u2019s ability to handle the economy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Americans\u2019 confidence in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\"><u>President Donald Trump\u2019s<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;ability to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/04\/21\/cnbc-daily-open-if-trump-intervenes-in-fed-upheaval-could-ensue.html\"><u>manage the U.S. economy<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;has plummeted since he regained the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/white-house\/\"><u>White House<\/u><\/a>, new polls reveal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Just 37% of Americans approve of Trump\u2019s handling of the economy, according to a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/data\/trumps-approval-rating-2025-01-21\/\"><u>Reuters\/Ipsos survey<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;released Wednesday, a rating lower than at any point during his first term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">A&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/politics\/2025\/04\/23\/evaluations-of-trump-job-approval-and-confidence-on-issues\/\"><u>Pew Research Center<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;survey also out Wednesday found that less than half of U.S. adults, 45%, have confidence in Trump\u2019s ability to make \u201cgood decisions\u201d about the economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">This represents a 14 point drop from the same poll in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/politics\/2024\/11\/22\/views-of-trump-personal-traits-confidence-on-issues-ideology\/\"><u>November<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;of last year, when 59% of respondents said they had confidence in Trump\u2019s economic decision making,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The pair of surveys out Wednesday follow a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/04\/19\/trumps-approval-rating-on-economy-drops-to-lowest-of-his-presidential-careerat-.html\"><u>CNBC All-America Economic Survey<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;released earlier this week that also registered Trump\u2019s lowest economic approval ratings of his entire White House career, with just 43% of Americans approving of his handling of the economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The plunge in Americans\u2019 overall confidence in the president\u2019s handling of the economy is especially significant given that Trump won the 2024 presidential election against&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/kamala-harris\/\"><u>then-Vice President Kamala Harris<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;on a platform of lowering inflation and revitalizing an economy still recovering from Covid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">But since he took office, Trump has focused largely on imposing, then pausing, then imposing tariffs, as opposed to his promised tax cuts and deregulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The start-stop tariffs have created uncertainty and sent the stock market into&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/04\/07\/trump-tariffs-live-updates-stock-market-crypto.html\"><u>turmoil<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;on concerns over potential fallout from a trade war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">About 59% of Americans disapprove of Trump\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/04\/02\/trump-tariffs-live-updates.html\"><u>sweeping tariffs<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;on imported goods, the Pew Research Center survey found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">There is still a partisan split in Americans\u2019 confidence in Trump\u2019s handling of the economy. Most Republicans, 80%, told the Pew poll they were \u2018very\u2019 or \u2018somewhat confident\u2019 in Trump\u2019s ability to make good decisions about economic and tax policy. That compares to just 11% of Democrats who said the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">As public confidence in Trump\u2019s economic plan falters, his overall approval ratings have also slipped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Approximately 42% of Americans approve of Trump\u2019s job performance, according to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/data\/trumps-approval-rating-2025-01-21\/\"><u>Reuters\/Ipsos poll<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;conducted April 16-21. That\u2019s down from 47% during the days surrounding his&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/trump-approval-rating-dips-many-wary-his-wielding-power-reutersipsos-poll-finds-2025-04-21\/\"><u>inauguration<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Several other polls out this week found similar drops in Trump\u2019s overall public approval: 44% of Americans approve of Trump\u2019s handling of the presidency in the CNBC survey, as do 40% of respondents in the Pew survey.
