He offered some words of encouragement and gave him a hug, literally just moments after the game had ended.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The show of sportsmanship elicited an immediate reaction from fans across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">&#8220;This is what sports are all about 100,\u201d the NCAA posted on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">A user wrote in the thread: \u201cClass act! [The] Houston Cougars were worthy opponents and deserve respect and empathy! Go Gators!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Another person posted, \u201cShowing a bunch of class by Walter Clayton Jr.,\u201d as dozens of others remarked on what they saw as an example of \u201cgreat sportsmanship.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The backstory for Clayton might help to explain the mindset behind his touching action.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Clayton, a highly sought-after four-star recruit in football, received offers from blue chip programs like Notre Dame, Florida State, Georgia, Nebraska and even Florida,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/ncaab\/2025\/04\/05\/walter-clayton-jr-florida-final-four-basketball-over-football\/82896882007\/\">according to USA Today<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">But he wanted to play basketball, and elite programs weren\u2019t interested.
