Tony Evers (D) after she made changes that affected the state\u2019s school exam, the Forward Exam. The Forward Exam used to be tied to benchmarks used in the National Assessment of Educational Progress, also known as the nation\u2019s report card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">But she changed the benchmarks used to assess students taking the Forward Exam, which critics say have lowered the state\u2019s standards in measuring student achievement and say the changes make it harder to compare student achievement between years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Underly has argued that the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dpi.wi.gov\/news\/releases\/2024\/jill-underly-proficiency-levels-cut-scores\"><u>state wasn\u2019t lowering standards<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;but were \u201creflecting actual student results using Wisconsin\u2019s strong academic standards.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/5226217-jill-underly-wisconsin-superintendent\/\">thehill<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ill Underly was projected to prevail in her reelection for Wisconsin superintendent of public instruction, beating challenger Brittany Kinser, according to Decision Desk HQ.
