President Trump\u2002<\/u><\/a>said Sunday he\u2019s \u201cnot joking\u201d about serving a possible third term, marking the second time in less than three weeks that he\u2019s floated the idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m hearing \u2014 you don\u2019t sound like you\u2019re joking. I\u2019ve heard you joke about this a number of times,\u201d NBC News\u2019s Kristen Welker\u2002<\/u><\/a>said during a phone call with the president, discussing a third term for Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo, no, I\u2019m not joking,\u201d Trump responded, according to NBC News<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The president also said that he has \u201cthe highest poll numbers of any Republican for the last 100 years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re in the high 70s in many polls, in the real polls, and you see that. And, and you know, we\u2019re very popular. And you know, a lot of people would like me to do that,\u201d Trump said of a third term. \u201cBut, I mean, I basically tell them, we have a long way to go, you know, it\u2019s very early in the administration.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump previously floated the idea<\/u><\/a> of running for a third term during a St. Patrick\u2019s Day event on March 12 that featured House Speaker Mike Johnson\u2002<\/u><\/a>(R-La.); Ireland\u2019s leader, Taoiseach Miche\u00e1l Martin; and other lawmakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump is constitutionally restricted to two terms<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When pressed on how he would make it into the White House a third time, Trump told Welker, \u201cThere are, there are methods which you could do it, as you know.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Welker then pitched him a hypothetical: \u201cWell, let me throw out one where President Vance would run for office and then would, basically, if, if you \u2014 if he won, at the top of the ticket, would then pass the baton to you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump replied, \u201cWell, that\u2019s one. But there are others, too. There are others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He would not offer other examples. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The president said that he enjoys \u201cworking\u201d in his call with Welker after she stated that the presidency \u201cis the toughest job there is,\u201d according to NBC News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWould you, would you \u2014 you wouldn\u2019t want to pass the baton to Vice President Vance?\u201d Welker asked Trump, to which Trump responded that \u201cit\u2019s too early \u2026 to even think about it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an emailed statement to The Hill, White House communications director Steven Cheung\u2002<\/u><\/a>said, \u201cAmericans overwhelmingly approve and support President Trump and his America First policies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
