Sen. Josh Hawley\u2002<\/u><\/a>(R-Mo.) expressed skepticism about Dr. Mehmet Oz\u2019s,<\/u><\/a> President Trump\u2019s\u2002<\/u><\/a>pick to oversee Medicare and Medicaid, views on abortion and transgender rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been reading up on Dr. Oz\u2002<\/u><\/a>\u2013 I see he\u2019s praised trans surgeries for minors and supported hormone treatments & puberty blockers for kids in the past,\u201d Hawley wrote on X<\/u><\/a>. \u201cAnd has also criticized state laws protecting life. I hope he\u2019s changed his views to match President Trump!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe need the Trump agenda at CMS,\u201d Hawley said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hawley was responding to his official account, which showed the questions he planned to ask Oz during his confirmation process<\/u><\/a> in the Senate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If confirmed, Oz would take over the $1.5 trillion agency, despite having no experience running a large bureaucracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a TV personality who gained national attention as a medical expert on Oprah Winfrey\u2019s talk show in the 2000s and with his own show \u201cThe Dr. Oz Show,\u201d Oz\u2019s politics were initially unclear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hawley has planned to question Oz about him hosting \u201cvarious transgender advocates,\u201d surgeons who performed transgender-related surgeries and minors who discussed \u201cswitching genders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also planned to question Oz on the use of puberty blockers for minors, the Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Supreme Court decision, fetal heartbeat laws, and many other questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oz hosted what the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) organization called at the time a \u201cgroundbreaking\u201d<\/u><\/a> interview with transgender youth. Oz\u2019s show has since been viewed<\/u><\/a> by LGTBQ+ advocates as promoting false or misleading medical claims, particularly about the LGBTQ+ community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oz has a history of endorsing often controversial products, blurring the lines between pitching for celebrities and being an educated medical official.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\u2019s the latest in Trump\u2019s appointees to have previously appeared on TV and been a controversial pick to lead a federal agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
