{"id":39762,"date":"2025-03-16T01:36:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-16T06:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=39762"},"modified":"2025-03-16T04:48:12","modified_gmt":"2025-03-16T09:48:12","slug":"chicago-dyes-its-river-bright-green-as-it-opens-st-patricks-day-celebrations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=39762","title":{"rendered":"Chicago dyes its river bright green as it opens St. Patrick&#8217;s Day celebrations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">CHICAGO &#8212;&nbsp;The Chicago River is once again glowing kelly green as the city opens its annual St. Patrick&#8217;s Day celebrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Thousands lined the river and packed bridges Saturday and erupted in cheers as members of the Chicago Journeymen Plumbers Union Local 130 sprayed dye into the water from boats, carrying on a tradition they began some 63 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The dyeing immediately precedes the annual downtown St. Patrick&#8217;s Day parade. The day \u2014 which falls on Monday this year \u2014 celebrates Irish culture. St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and is credited with having brought Christianity there in the fifth century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The dye is nontoxic.
