Coast Guard ends search for Vernon Glasford, 52, missing after boat capsized off Queens on Sunday, killing three<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three people died, two others were hospitalized and one was presumed dead after a boat sank in New York City<\/a> on Sunday, according to the US Coast Guard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One of the hospitalized people was in critical condition on Monday morning, police said, a day after the speedboat took on water 5 miles (8km) south-east of Breezy Point, a neighborhood at the tip of Queens\u2019 Rockaway peninsula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The other victim was in stable condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Coast Guard rescue crews responded to assist the boaters on Sunday, and called off its search on Monday evening after being unable to find Vernon Glasford, a 52-year-old from the Bronx.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Vernon Glasford,\u201d said Capt Jonathan Andrechik, the commander of Coast Guard sector New York<\/a>. \u201cThe decision to suspend a search is always difficult. Though our active search has ended, our support and sympathy remain with all those impacted by this tragic incident.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The New York police and fire departments, New Jersey\u2019s state police and the Sandy Hook Pilots also participated in the search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The other people aboard the boat were located on Sunday. A Coast Guard boat crew recovered three people, a Coast Guard air crew recovered one person, and a New York City police aviation crew recovered another person. The water temperature in the search area was about 38F (3C).<\/p>\n\n\n\n The search covered approximately 842 sq miles (2,181 sq kilometers) over the course of 30 hours and involved helicopters, planes, ships and small boats, the Coast Guard said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Francisca Adamas\u2019s husband, 50-year-old Cecilio Adamas, was identified as one of the capsizing victims, according to the outlet. She told CBS that her husband went fishing with five friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAt 10am, I called him. I said: \u2018Is everything OK?\u2019\u201d Adamas remarked to CBS. \u201cHe said: \u2018Oh there\u2019s a lot of wind.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The cause of the sinking remained under investigation on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
