{"id":38901,"date":"2025-02-24T02:11:45","date_gmt":"2025-02-24T08:11:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=38901"},"modified":"2025-02-24T02:11:48","modified_gmt":"2025-02-24T08:11:48","slug":"retired-general-says-trump-pentagon-firings-extremely-destabilizing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=38901","title":{"rendered":"Retired general says Trump Pentagon firings \u2018extremely destabilizing\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Retired Gen.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/george-casey\/\"><u>George Casey\u2002<\/u><\/a>said Sunday that recent Pentagon firings by President Trump are \u201cextremely destabilizing\u201d to the military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThat\u2019s extremely destabilizing at \u2014 at a time that\u2019s a lot going on domestically and a lot going on abroad,\u201d Casey told ABC News\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/martha-raddatz\/\"><u>Martha Raddatz\u2002<\/u><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/week-transcript-2-23-25-sen-jack-reed\/story?id=119084473\"><u>on \u201cThis Week.\u201d<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cWhen you remove so many senior leaders, especially without justifying \u2026 [and] giving due cause, it creates huge uncertainty in the ranks. And it just isn\u2019t a good thing for the military at a very difficult time,\u201d Casey added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Air Force Gen. CQ Brown Jr., the chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was fired Friday&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/5159585-democrats-and-former-defense-officials-rail-against-pure-pettiness-of-trump-pentagon-firings\/\"><u>alongside five other<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;senior defense officials and top military lawyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The move&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/5159585-democrats-and-former-defense-officials-rail-against-pure-pettiness-of-trump-pentagon-firings\/\"><u>prompted anger and alarm<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;from Democrats and former national security leaders, who advised it marked a risky polarization of the military during a time of major geopolitical unrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/donald-trump\/\"><u>Donald Trump\u2019s\u2002<\/u><\/a>quest for power is endangering our military,\u201d Sen.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/jack-reed\/\"><u>Jack Reed\u2002<\/u><\/a>(D-R.I.), the ranking member on the Senate Armed Services Committee, wrote in an opinion piece&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2025\/02\/21\/trump-firings-generals-admirals\/\"><u>for The Washington Post<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThe implications for our national security cannot be overstated. A clear message is being sent to military leaders: Failure to demonstrate personal and political loyalty to Trump could result in retribution, even after decades of honorable service,\u201d Reed said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Defense Secretary&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/pete-hegseth\/\"><u>Pete Hegseth\u2002<\/u><\/a>defended&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/5159850-defense-secretary-hegseth-defends-firings\/\"><u>the ousting<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;of the military officials Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThere is civilian control of the military. Nothing about this is unprecedented,\u201d Hegseth said on \u201cFox News Sunday.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThe president deserves to pick his key national security and military advisory team. There are lots of presidents who\u2019ve made changes, from FDR to Eisenhower to H.W. Bush to Barack Obama,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThis is a reflection of the president wanting the right people around him to execute the national security approach we want to take.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In Casey\u2019s appearance on \u201cThis Week,\u201d the retired general said the move to fire the military officials \u201cshould be better explained.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cIt should be better explained.
