{"id":38420,"date":"2025-02-12T19:11:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-13T01:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=38420"},"modified":"2025-02-12T20:04:38","modified_gmt":"2025-02-13T02:04:38","slug":"were-coming-after-you-trump-administration-sues-new-york-state-over-immigration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=38420","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;We&#8217;re coming after you&#8217;: Trump administration sues New York state over immigration"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">WASHINGTON \u2013&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2025\/02\/04\/pam-bondi-confirmation-attorney-general\/78164717007\/\"><u>Attorney General Pam Bondi<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;said Wednesday that the Justice Department is suing the state of New York and its top officials for prioritizing &#8220;illegal aliens over American citizens.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">&#8220;As you know, we sued Illinois and New York didn&#8217;t listen. So now you&#8217;re next,&#8221; Bondi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Bondi, in her first news conference since being confirmed, said \u201cmillions\u201d of people \u201cwith violent records have flooded into our communities, bringing violence and deadly drugs with them,\u201d and that states like New York with permissive immigration policies were contributing to the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Bondi announced that DOJ sued not only the state of New York but also Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul, Attorney General Letitia James and Mark Schroeder, the state&#8217;s motor vehicles commissioner. Hochul&#8217;s office didn&#8217;t immediately return calls for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">James responded with a statement that state laws protect New Yorkers and keep communities safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cI am prepared to defend our laws, just as I always have,&#8221; James said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Bondi said the lawsuit targets what she called New York&#8217;s policy of limiting law enforcement agencies from working with immigration authorities, allowing dangerous criminals to operate with impunity across state lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">She brought to the dais an \u201cAngel Mom,\u201d Tammy Nobles, whose 20-year-old daughter, Kayla Hamilton, was killed in 2022 by a member of the MS-13 gang in New York \u201cwho should not have been in our country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cYet he was released, flown to Maryland, where he committed this violent murder,\u201d Bondi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThat\u2019s who we were letting walk into our country, and that&#8217;s why President Trump has directed this to stop,\u201d Bondi said in her brief remarks. \u201cAnd if you don&#8217;t comply with federal law, we will hold you accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Bondi did not provide many details of the specific laws that she said New York had broken but said its policies were undermining and hindering law enforcement, including from running background checks on potentially violent offenders in the country illegally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The Justice Department last Thursday&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/immigration\/trump-administration-sues-illinois-chicago-sanctuary-city-policies-rcna191079\"><u>sued Illinois and Chicago<\/u><\/a>, alleging their sanctuary city policies were blocking federal authorities from enforcing immigration laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Other lawsuits over President Trump&#8217;s policies<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Bondi&#8217;s news conference came after&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2025\/02\/08\/trump-administration-judges-court-policy-block\/78258862007\/\"><u>federal judges temporarily blocked<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;President&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/politics\/donald-trump\/\"><u>Donald Trump&#8217;s<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;attempts to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2025\/02\/03\/judge-trump-administration-funding-freeze\/78180951007\/\"><u>freeze spending<\/u><\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2025\/02\/06\/trump-federal-workers-buyout-deadline-pause-court\/78292118007\/\"><u>cull the federal workforce<\/u><\/a>, end&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2025\/02\/05\/judge-birthright-citizenship-order\/78247721007\/\"><u>automatic citizenship<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;for children born on U.S. soil, send&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/us-judge-blocks-trump-sending-transgender-women-mens-prisons-2025-02-05\/\"><u>transgender women to men\u2019s prisons<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;and give Elon Musk\u2019s Department of Government Efficiency<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2025\/02\/08\/judge-blocks-elon-musk-doge\/78357711007\/\"><u>\u2002access to federal payment systems<\/u><\/a>. (On Wednesday night, a judge in Boston&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2025\/02\/12\/judge-restores-president-trumps-buyouts-for-federal-employees\/78479179007\/\"><u>allowed a widespread buyout plan<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;to continue.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said \u201cliberal\u201d judges issued at least 12 injunctions against the administration the previous two weeks. Trump said Tuesday that he would obey the rulings, but would seek every legal remedy possible to overturn adverse decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cQuick news flash to these liberal judges who are supporting their obstructionist efforts: 77 million Americans voted to elect this president,&#8221; Leavitt said. &#8220;Each injunction is an abuse of the rule of law and an attempt to thwart the will of the people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Bondi said judicial impeachments, which Trump aide Elon Musk suggested, are \u201cnot going to be happening now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cWe\u2019re going to follow the law right now. We\u2019re going to follow the process,\u201d Bondi said. \u201cThese are federal judges with lifetime appointments. But they will be struck down ultimately by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/politics\/supreme-court\/\"><u>Supreme Court<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;of the United States if the appellate courts don\u2019t follow the law as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who is Pam Bondi?<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2025\/01\/15\/trump-attorney-general-pam-bondi-confirmation-hearing\/77676383007\/\"><u>Bondi, a former eight-year Florida attorney general<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;and 18-year state prosecutor, helped defend Trump during his first impeachment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Trump, who faced two federal indictments before the charges were dropped because he won the election, named former defense lawyers to several top posts at the department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2024\/11\/14\/donald-trump-todd-blanche-deputy-attorney-general\/76302898007\/\"><u>Todd Blanche and Emil Bove<\/u><\/a>, who were named for deputy attorney general and principal associate deputy attorney general, respectively, defended Trump in multiple criminal cases.
