Rep. Buddy Carter\u2002<\/u><\/a>(R-Ga.) introduced a new bill this week aiming to rename Greenland to \u201cRed, White, and Blueland,\u201d as President Trump\u2002<\/u><\/a>seeks to acquire the island territory<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The legislation, called the \u201cRed, White, and Blueland Act of 2025<\/u><\/a>,\u201d directs Interior Secretary Doug Burgum\u2002<\/u><\/a>to oversee the implementation of the name change<\/u><\/a> and to ensure official documentation and maps refer to Greenland by its updated name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The legislation also authorizes Trump to enter into negotiations<\/u><\/a> with Denmark \u201cto purchase or otherwise acquire Greenland.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAmerica is back and will soon be bigger than ever with the addition of Red, White, and Blueland,\u201d Carter said in a statement Tuesday, after introducing the legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPresident Trump has correctly identified the purchase of what is now Greenland as a national security priority, and we will proudly welcome its people to join the freest nation to ever exist when our Negotiator-in-Chief inks this monumental deal,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in purchasing Greenland,<\/u><\/a> a semi-autonomous country that is currently under Denmark\u2019s control. He has argued that the U.S. taking over the Arctic island is necessary for national security<\/u><\/a> purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his inauguration speech, Trump referred to the U.S. as a growing nation expanding its territory<\/u><\/a>. He has also called<\/u><\/a> for the U.S. to retake the Panama Canal and mused about annexing Canada. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greenland and Denmark have emphatically resisted Trump\u2019s push<\/u><\/a> to acquire the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t want to be Danes,\u201d Greenland Prime Minister M\u00fate Egede previously said on Fox News. \u201cWe don\u2019t even want to be Americans. We want to be Greenlanders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen\u2002<\/u><\/a>has also insisted Greenland is not for sale and that it is up to Greenland to make its decision about its independence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
