{"id":38277,"date":"2025-02-09T16:47:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-09T22:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=38277"},"modified":"2025-02-09T20:48:38","modified_gmt":"2025-02-10T02:48:38","slug":"san-francisco-leads-coalition-against-trump-sanctuary-city-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=38277","title":{"rendered":"San Francisco Leads Coalition Against Trump Sanctuary City Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The county of San Francisco, California, on Friday led a coalition against the Trump administration\u2019s crackdown against sanctuary jurisdictions for illegal aliens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">San Francisco and Santa Clara counties in California, as well as King County, Washington, and the cities of Portland, Oregon, and New Haven, Connecticut,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/02\/09\/us\/san-francisco-trump-lawsuit-immigration\/index.html\">sued<\/a>&nbsp;the Trump administration over its sanctuary crackdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">CNN reported:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The suit, filed Friday, cited President Donald Trump\u2019s executive order directing federal funds be withheld \u201cfrom jurisdictions that refuse to use their local resources to carry out his immigration agenda,\u201d and a February 5 Department of Justice memo the suit alleges \u201cthreatens not only termination of funding but also civil and criminal prosecution of any jurisdiction that refuses to comply.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The plaintiffs say their lawsuit seeks to \u201ccheck this abuse of power,\u201d and asks the court to declare the Trump administration\u2019s actions unlawful and prevent their enforcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThis is the federal government illegally asserting a right it does not have, telling cities how to use their resources, and commandeering local law enforcement,\u201d San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu said in statement announcing the lawsuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Chiu continued, \u201cThis is the federal government coercing local officials to bend to their will or face defunding or prosecution. That is illegal and authoritarian.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In 2017, the city of San Francisco filed suit against Trump over an executive order declaring sanctuary jurisdictions ineligible for federal grants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cIn flagrant disregard of the law, President Trump seeks once again to punish those who disagree with him, coerce local authorities, and commandeer them into carrying out his agenda,\u201d the lawsuit argued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cFrom our perspective, we think any and all sanctuary jurisdictions are going to be targeted,\u201d Chiu said, contending that he believes that more jurisdictions will join the suit against the Trump administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2025\/02\/09\/san-francisco-leads-coalition-against-trump-sanctuary-city-policy\/\">breitbart<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The county of San Francisco, California, on Friday led a coalition against the Trump administration\u2019s crackdown against sanctuary jurisdictions for illegal aliens.
