Donald Trump<\/a> lashed out at \u201cincompetent\u201d politicians on the ground in California who are dealing with massive, deadly wildfires, even as the president-elect has yet to take up an invitation<\/a> to survey the damage himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As of Monday, the disaster has killed at least 24 people and destroyed thousands of homes, with another round of extreme wind expected to bring more destruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Trump has so far not publicly responded to California Gov. Gavin Newsom<\/a> (D) urging the incoming president to tour the devastation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Newsom told<\/a> NBC\u2019s \u201cMeet the Press\u201d on Sunday that he reached out to Trump \u201cin the spirit of an open hand, not a closed fist.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n However, instead of heading to California, Trump renewed his attacks on local leaders on his Truth Social<\/a> platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe fires are still raging in L.A.,\u201d he wrote<\/a> Sunday morning. \u201cThe incompetent pols have no idea how to put them out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n He added that the fires are \u201cone of the worst catastrophes in the history of our Country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThey just can\u2019t put out the fires. What\u2019s wrong with them?\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Trump also reposted a meme<\/a> depicting the Hollywood Hills ablaze, with the iconic \u201cHollywood\u201d sign replaced by the words \u201cTrump Was Right.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was one of a series of pro-Trump and anti-Democrat posts the Republican has shared to his 8.5 million followers in recent days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Trump has chimed in repeatedly from afar, calling on political foe Newsom, or \u201cNewscum,\u201d to resign<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Many of his comments have been misleading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Trump accused the governor of refusing to sign a \u201cwater restoration declaration<\/a>\u201d \u2015 a document that does not exist, according to fact-checkers<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe governor is focused on protecting people, not playing politics, and making sure firefighters have all the resources they need,\u201d a statement from Newsom\u2019s press office said<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Trump also complained that there\u2019s \u201cno water for fire hydrants\u201d \u2015 another false claim that had to be debunked<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In a post<\/a> on Jan. 9, Trump took aim at Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, President Joe Biden<\/a>, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and so-called Green New Deal proposals to address climate change, as he declared L.A. \u201ca total wipeout!!!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
