An attorney advising Robert F. Kennedy Jr.\u2002<\/u><\/a>criticized The New York Times and other media outlets for publishing a claim that the Trump ally wants to eradicate approval for the polio vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attorney Aaron Siri joined Fox News on Tuesday to clarify his statements<\/u><\/a> after it was widely reported<\/u><\/a> he advised Kennedy, who President-elect Trump\u2002<\/u><\/a>tapped to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), to pause distribution of several vaccines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s totally false to say that the petition sought to revoke the polio vaccine, as if the petition intended to make it so that Americans couldn\u2019t get the polio vaccine,\u201d Siri said. \u201cIt was for only one of six licensed polio vaccines.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siri noted that he filed a petition on behalf of a separate client, not Kennedy, and it was specifically for a \u201cnew polio vaccine\u201d licensed in 1990.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siri went on to defend Kennedy, who has made several anti-vaccine comments in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe doesn\u2019t want to get rid of any vaccines. Mr. Kennedy has made very clear, he just wants to make sure that there\u2019s transparency and that there\u2019s proper science,\u201d Siri said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the Times\u2019s piece about Siri was released, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell\u2002<\/u><\/a>(Ky.) blasted the idea<\/u><\/a> of eradicating the polio vaccine as \u201cspecious disinformation\u201d that will threaten the advancements of \u201clifesaving medical progress.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McConnell, a polio survivor, warned that the efforts to undermine public confidence in cures is dangerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siri argued he and Kennedy want more testing and research into vaccines before the product is licensed, goes on the market and is \u201cinjected into millions of babies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s all we\u2019re talking about in terms of safety. He just wants safety. He wants transparency and he doesn\u2019t want to deprive people of vaccinations,\u201d Siri said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
