The Department of Defense (DOD) has announced another nearly $1 billion in a new \u201cassistance package\u201d for Ukraine, bringing the total military aid provided by the U.S. to more than $62 billion since Russia\u2019s February 2022 invasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The latest $988 million in aid support comes through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), which will provide the eastern European country with \u201cmunitions for rocket systems and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS),\u201d the DOD said in a Saturday\u00a0press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The package also includes \u201cequipment, components, and spare parts to maintain, repair, and overhaul artillery systems, tanks, and armored vehicles,\u201d the agency added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To conclude the announcement, the DOD emphasized that the \u201cUnited States will continue to work together with some 50 Allies and partners through the Ukraine Defense Contact Group and its associated capability coalitions to provide the support Ukraine needs to win the war.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The latest aid package is intended<\/a> for \u201clonger-term systems to be put on contract\u201d that are likely to support Ukraine\u2019s \u201cfuture military capabilities, not make an immediate difference on the battlefield,\u201d according to the Associated Press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The DOD statement comes just days after the White House announced<\/a> an additional $725 million in military assistance to Ukraine last Monday, Breitbart News reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
