Eight people were shot, three fatally, Monday afternoon during a “social gathering” at a residence in Chicago’s Gage Park neighborhood, a police official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At least three people were hospitalized in critical condition, with an additional victim stabilized at a medical facility, Chicago Fire Department officials told NBC Chicago<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chicago Police Chief of Patrol John Hein said that the shooting happened while a social gathering was taking place. Police were called about a person shot at a residence shortly after 2 p.m., he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The victims, four men and four women, are 20 to 35 years old, Hein said. All of the deceased were men, Hein said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Hein said two of the victims were taken to medical facilities in private vehicles and the rest went by city ambulances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A motive for the violence and how it unfolded was unclear. No information about a suspect or suspects was available. Hein said officers have been called to the location in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The community is known for its bungalows, which are more than a century old, as well as for its diversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
