{"id":35371,"date":"2024-12-01T21:28:57","date_gmt":"2024-12-02T03:28:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=35371"},"modified":"2024-12-01T21:29:00","modified_gmt":"2024-12-02T03:29:00","slug":"truck-carrying-44000-pounds-of-chickpeas-catches-fire-in-death-valley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=35371","title":{"rendered":"Truck carrying 44,000 pounds of chickpeas catches fire in Death Valley"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Truck in California caught fire after brakes overheated, Death Valley National Park officials say<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">A truck carrying 44,000 pounds of chickpeas burst into flames while driving through&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/travel\/general\/national-parks\"><u>Death Valley National Park<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;in California last month, park officials said Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The truck was descending Daylight Pass and Mud Canyon Road, which is closed to commercial truck traffic, when its brakes overheated and caused the truck to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/disasters\/fires\"><u>catch fire<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;at around 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 21, the National Park Service said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The truck driver eventually pulled over once reaching flat terrain on CA-190, officials said. Multiple agencies responded to the fire and no injuries were reported. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Death Valley National Park Superintendent Mike Reynolds said that commercial truck wrecks or fires always raise concerns about what materials may get released into the park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">&#8220;However, there\u2019s very little chance that stray chickpeas not cleaned up will become invasive species in the driest place in North America,&#8221; Reynolds said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Towing service Two Star Towing removed the charred wreckage and cleaned up the remaining&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/food-drink\/food\"><u>dried chickpeas,<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;park officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The incident was one of a handful of truck fires to occur in the park this year, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/california\/article\/death-valley-truck-fire-19951342.php\"><u>San Francisco Chronicle reported.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/crime\/police-and-law-enforcement\"><u>California Highway Patrol<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;spokesman Torey Michener told the paper in July that truck fires are &#8220;usually driver error, riding the brakes instead of using the engine to downshift to reduce speed that causes the fire.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Abby Wines, a spokesperson for Death Valley National Park, told the paper at the time that most drivers are unaware you can downshift to save the brakes \u2013 even on an automatic transmission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/truck-carrying-44000-pounds-chickpeas-catches-fire-death-valley\">foxnews<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Truck in California caught fire after brakes overheated, Death Valley National Park officials say A truck carrying 44,000 pounds of chickpeas burst into flames while driving through&nbsp;Death Valley National Park&nbsp;in California last month, park officials said Friday.
