Security Council Resolution Demanding Gaza Ceasefire"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The United States vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution Wednesday calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The U.S. was the only \u201cno\u201d vote, against 14 \u201cyes\u201d votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Linda Thomas-Greenfield&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/usun.usmission.gov\/explanation-of-vote-on-a-un-security-council-resolution-on-the-situation-in-the-middle-east\/\">explained<\/a>&nbsp;that the U.S. had vetoed the resolution because it did not include the release of 101 Israeli hostages as a condition:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">We made clear throughout negotiations we could not support an unconditional ceasefire that failed to release the hostages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Because, as this Council has previously called for, a durable end to the war must come with the release of the hostages. These two urgent goals are inextricably linked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">This resolution abandoned that necessity, and for that reason, the United States could not support it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Simply put, this resolution would have sent a dangerous message to Hamas: There\u2019s no need to come back to the negotiating table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The veto came as a relief to Israel, which is watching the Biden-Harris administration\u2019s lame duck weeks warily. President Barack Obama used his lame-duck days to allow an anti-Israel resolution to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/middle-east\/2016\/12\/23\/obama-administration-allows-anti-israel-un-resolution-settlements-pass\/\">pass<\/a>&nbsp;at the Security Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Earlier this year, the Biden-Harris administration&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/middle-east\/2024\/03\/26\/israel-leaves-hostage-talks-after-un-resolution-boosts-hamas-demands\/\">allowed<\/a>&nbsp;a flawed resolution to pass that did not make a ceasefire conditional on the release of hostages, even though it did mention the hostages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/middle-east\/2024\/11\/20\/u-s-vetoes-u-n-security-council-resolution-demanding-gaza-ceasefire\/\">breitbart<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The United States vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution Wednesday calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza.
