{"id":35004,"date":"2024-11-21T09:40:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-21T15:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=35004"},"modified":"2024-11-21T03:11:41","modified_gmt":"2024-11-21T09:11:41","slug":"poll-finds-most-dems-want-harris-for-next-presidential-nominee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=35004","title":{"rendered":"Poll finds most Dems want Harris for next presidential nominee"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Despite losing to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/donald-trump\/\"><u>President-elect Trump\u2002<\/u><\/a>in the 2024 White House election, most Democrats want&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/kamala-harris\/\"><u>Vice President Harris\u2002<\/u><\/a>to be the party\u2019s 2028 presidential nominee, according to a new survey.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The poll,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/puck.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/November-2024-Voter-Omnibus-PUCK-Topline.pdf\"><u>released<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;by Puck News\/Echelon Insights, found that 41 percent of likely Democratic voters would vote for Harris to be on the top of the Democratic ticket in 2028. California Gov.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/gavin-newsom\/\"><u>Gavin Newsom\u2002<\/u><\/a>(D) placed second at 8 percent. Pennsylvania Gov.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/josh-shapiro\/\"><u>Josh Shapiro\u2002<\/u><\/a>(D), who was in the running to be Harris\u2019s vice president this cycle, garnered 7 percent.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Both Minnesota Gov.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/tim-walz\/\"><u>Tim Walz\u2002<\/u><\/a>(D), Harris\u2019s vice presidential pick, and Transportation Secretary&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/pete-buttigieg\/\"><u>Pete Buttigieg,<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;who ran for president in 2020, got 6 percent.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Harris&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4969061-trump-wins-presidential-election\/\"><u>lost<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;the 2024 presidential election to Trump earlier this month. The president-elect won all seven battleground states, secured the popular vote and made inroads in some Democratic strongholds.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In the survey, Rep.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-2\/\"><u>Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez\u2002<\/u><\/a>(D-N.Y.) received 4 percent support, ahead of three Democratic governors. Michigan Gov.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/gretchen-whitmer\/\"><u>Gretchen Whitmer\u2002<\/u><\/a>got 3 percent. Both Illinois Gov. J. B. Pritzker and Kentucky Gov.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/andy-beshear\/\"><u>Andy Beshear\u2002<\/u><\/a>were at 2 percent.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Sen.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/cory-booker\/\"><u>Cory Booker\u2002<\/u><\/a>(D-N.J.), who also ran in the 2020 Democratic Party primary, received 2 percent backing, according to the poll. Colorado Gov.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/jared-polis\/\"><u>Jared Polis\u2002<\/u><\/a>and Maryland Gov.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/wes-moore\/\"><u>Wes Moore\u2002<\/u><\/a>got 1 percent a piece.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Around 16 percent of respondents were unsure about their choice, while some 1 percent wanted someone else.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">On the other side of the aisle, Vice President-elect Sen. J.D. Vance (R) led the way with 37 percent when respondents were asked who they would pick in the 2028 Republican primary. Former 2024 GOP presidential candidates&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/nikki-haley\/\"><u>Nikki Haley\u2002<\/u><\/a>and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/vivek-ramaswamy\/\"><u>Vivek Ramaswamy\u2002<\/u><\/a>got 9 percent each.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Florida Gov.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/ron-desantis\/\"><u>Ron DeSantis\u2002<\/u><\/a>(R) was at 8 percent. At the same time, Sen.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/ted-cruz\/\"><u>Ted Cruz\u2002<\/u><\/a>(R-Texas) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who Trump nominated to be his Secretary of State, garnered 5 percent each, according to the survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Some 3 percent wanted someone else, while 18 percent were unsure.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The poll was conducted from Nov. 14-18 among 1,010 likely voters.
