City Council Votes Unanimously to Become \u2018Sanctuary City,\u2019 Resist Trump"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to become a \u201csanctuary city\u201d and to refuse to comply with federal immigration law enforcement as a way of resisting President-elect Donald Trump\u2019s anticipated policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Trump promised during the campaign to deport those illegally in the country, starting with criminals. More than eight million migrants entered the U.S. illegally under the Biden-Harris administration\u2019s lax immigration policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Local Fox affiliate KTTV-11&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxla.com\/news\/la-sanctuary-city-ordinance-nov-2024\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">On Tuesday, the Los Angeles City Council voted 13-0 to adopt a \u201cSanctuary City\u201d ordinance that officially prohibits any city resources or personnel from being used to help federal enforcement of immigration laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The ordinance codifies what was an executive order by former LA Mayor Eric Garcetti and the LAPD\u2019s practice, under Special Order 40, for local resources, especially law enforcement agencies, to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Now, that does not mean federal agencies can\u2019t perform duties in LA. ICE can raid a location, but they can\u2019t ask the LAPD or sheriff\u2019s department to hand over undocumented immigrants jailed for minor offenses, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">California as a whole&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/local\/2018\/03\/27\/revolt-californias-sanctuary-state-laws-grows-orange-county\/\">adopted<\/a>&nbsp;\u201csanctuary state\u201d policies during Trump\u2019s first term, most of which survived court challenges.
