Caroline Kennedy, the U.S. ambassador to Australia, bashed her cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr.<\/a> this week over his views on vaccinations, calling them \u201cdangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response to a question at the National Press Club of Australia on Sunday, Caroline Kennedy said her cousin, President-elect Donald Trump\u2019s pick to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, is out of step with mainstream America when it comes to vaccines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think Bobby Kennedy\u2019s views on vaccines are dangerous, but I don\u2019t think that most Americans share them,\u201d she said in remarks previously reported by The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added that the American public is just getting to know Robert Kennedy but that she grew up with him and has known about his views \u201cfor a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI would say that our family is united in terms of the public health sector and infrastructure and has the greatest admiration for the medical profession in our country,\u201d she said. “Bobby Kennedy has got a different set of views.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trump transition team did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A day after the election, Kennedy told NBC News<\/a> that he would not take away people\u2019s vaccines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His disproven claims about vaccines include an assertion that they are tied to autism<\/a>, despite scientific studies that have provided evidence debunking the claim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kennedy has also indicated that the Trump administration would ban fluoride in drinking water<\/a> and eliminate ultra-processed foods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump last week announced that he intends to nominate Kennedy<\/a> for the Cabinet post. Kennedy dropped his independent presidential bid before he endorsed Trump in August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cabinet post requires Senate confirmation, and there’s no guarantee that he will be confirmed. Republicans will hold the majority in the chamber starting in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Department of Health and Human Services houses a variety of agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration, the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News reported<\/a> last week that some FDA staffers were weighing quick exits should Kennedy be selected for a prominent health role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caroline Kennedy this week also commented on former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard\u2019s selection as director of national intelligence<\/a>, saying her confirmation would be a \u201cgreat concern,\u201d but she cautioned: \u201cLet\u2019s see what happens with President Trump\u2019s appointments. They\u2019ve been catching, you know, making waves, headlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLet\u2019s just calm down and wait to see what happens,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
