Nancy Mace, R-S.C., introduced a resolution Monday that would ban transgender women from using female bathrooms in the Capitol just weeks before Democratic Rep.-elect&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/nbc-out\/out-politics-and-policy\/rep-elect-sarah-mcbride-ready-push-back-second-trump-administration-rcna178980\">Sarah McBride<\/a>&nbsp;of Delaware is set to become&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/nbc-out\">the first out transgender<\/a>&nbsp;member&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\">of Congress<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.com\/v3\/__https:\/\/x.com\/RepNancyMace\/status\/1858659671910817924__;!!PIZeeW5wscynRQ!tltkknXVC-9p67zaTVx60j41yRKr9yKpoLArn_LevAJXl-pnScNQ4phmNhjxJcJ7OWbi8Tq5DpV4EGJdvfnBlDyIDTFZh9YrFUgukSI$\">The measure<\/a>&nbsp;would prohibit any lawmakers and House employees from \u201cusing single-sex facilities other than those corresponding to their biological sex.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Asked by reporters whether her resolution was meant to target a marginalized person, Mace said, \u201cSarah McBride doesn\u2019t get a say in this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThis is a biological man trying to force himself into women\u2019s spaces, and I\u2019m not going to tolerate it,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">McBride, who won the race for Delaware\u2019s lone House seat this month, slammed the measure Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThis is a blatant attempt from far right-wing extremists to distract from the fact that they have no real solutions to what Americans are facing. We should be focused on bringing down the cost of housing, health care, and child care, not manufacturing culture wars,\u201d she said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cEvery day Americans go to work with people who have life journeys different than their own and engage with them respectfully, I hope members of Congress can muster that same kindness,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SarahEMcBride\/status\/1858671704718868652\">she said on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Mace told reporters that her resolution is about \u201cwomen\u2019s rights\u201d and protecting them in \u201cprivate spaces,\u201d arguing that the \u201cradical left\u201d was trying to erase those rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">A spokesperson for McBride told NBC News that Mace did not reach out before she introduced the measure and that McBride found out about it in the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Mace&#8217;s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The House sergeant-at-arms would be tasked with enforcing the resolution if it passes. The measure would not require passage by the Senate or a signature from the president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Mace said Monday that she plans to reintroduce the measure in the next Congress, when Republicans will retain control of the House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Republicans spent more than $200 million on network television ads targeting trans people this year, according to data shared with NBC News this month by AdImpact, a firm that tracks political ad spending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The Republican Party platform this year leaned heavily into anti-trans rhetoric, calling for banning trans people from competing in sports that align with their gender identities, proposing undoing Title IX protections for LGBTQ people and calling for barring the use of taxpayer dollars for funding gender-affirming surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In the days following President-elect Donald Trump\u2019s victory,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/nbc-out\/out-politics-and-policy\/democrats-blame-partys-position-transgender-rights-part-harris-loss-rcna179370\">some Democrats blamed<\/a>&nbsp;their party\u2019s position on transgender rights as contributing to Vice President Kamala Harris\u2019 defeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Those Democratic lawmakers said the party went too far and pandered to what they called &#8220;the far left&#8221; while trying not to offend anyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The Human Rights Campaign, an LGBTQ advocacy group, said Monday that Mace was cruel and discriminating against her incoming colleague, calling the resolution a \u201cpolitical charade by a grown-up bully.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cIt is also another warning sign that the incoming anti-equality House majority will continue to focus on targeting LGBTQ+ people rather than the cost of living, price gouging or any of the problems the American people elected them to solve,\u201d spokesperson Laurel Powell said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/nancy-mace-seeks-ban-transgender-women-female-bathrooms-capitol-rcna180725\">Nbcnews<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON \u2014 Rep.
