{"id":34737,"date":"2024-11-14T17:30:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-14T23:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=34737"},"modified":"2024-11-20T00:18:04","modified_gmt":"2024-11-20T06:18:04","slug":"boeing-laying-off-17000-people-following-major-strike-business-woes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=34737","title":{"rendered":"Boeing Laying Off 17,000 People Following Major Strike, Business Woes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Aircraft manufacturer Boeing has sent about 17,000 layoff notices to employees who are expected to be cut by mid-January, company officials&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/boeing-issues-layoff-notices-aerospace-giant-cuts-workforce\">told<\/a>&nbsp;Fox Business last month.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement published on October 11, Boeing told the outlet that it is \u201cadjusting our workforce levels to align with our financial reality and a more focused set of priorities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The thousands of employees to be fired include executives and managers, new CEO Kelly Ortberg told staff in a memo obtained by the outlet.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur business is in a difficult position, and it is hard to overstate the challenges we face together,\u201d Ortberg, who only took over as CEO in August, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">He added that the nature of the situation \u201crequires tough decisions, and we will have to make structural changes to ensure we can stay competitive and deliver for our customers over the long term.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">With approximately 170,000 personnel across the globe, the impending job cuts account for a staggering\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2024\/10\/12\/boeing-to-slash-17000-jobs-financial-losses-machinist-strike\/\">10 percent<\/a>\u00a0of Boeing\u2019s workforce.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The move comes after 33,000 Boeing machinists in Oregon and Washington went on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/news\/local\/boeing-plane-production-resumes-strike-employees-return-to-work-contract-delays-machinists-aircrafts-737-max-airlines\">strike<\/a>&nbsp;on September 13, which lasted for nearly two months before ending, according to KOMO News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Even though the strike just ended, a Boeing spokesperson told the outlet on Tuesday that it will be several weeks before the company is able to fully resume passenger plane construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe state the business is in, we have to reduce headcount to deal with the reality we\u2019re currently in. It\u2019s tough. It\u2019s hard on everybody,\u201d said Brian Ball, a Seattle-area senior manager at Boeing. \u201cI think they had to right-size the company. Boeing is a great company.
