{"id":3410,"date":"2023-01-04T06:21:16","date_gmt":"2023-01-04T12:21:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=3410"},"modified":"2023-03-15T03:43:29","modified_gmt":"2023-03-15T08:43:29","slug":"two-men-charged-in-washington-state-power-substation-attacks-that-left-tens-of-thousands-without-power-on-christmas-day-caused-3-million-in-damages-and-all-to-steal-a-cash-register","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=3410","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Two men charged in Washington state power substation attacks that left tens of thousands without power on Christmas Day caused $3 million in damages &#8211; and all to steal a CASH REGISTER<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two men have been charged in attacks at four\u00a0Washington state\u00a0power substations that left 14,000 people with no power on Christmas\u00a0Day.<br \/>\nThe duo told investigators that their plan was all in order to steal a cash register at a local business, according to the criminal complaint filed Saturday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington at Tacoma.<br \/>\nAfter cutting off power to the area &#8211; subjecting people to a cold and dark holiday weekend &#8211; the men drilled a hole in the lock of a business and stole its cash register.<br \/>\nThe overnight attacks on the Pierce County substations cut out power to customers during the holidays and caused about $3 million in damages.<br \/>\nMatthew Greenwood, 32, and Jeremy Crahan, 40, were arrested Saturday and have been charged with conspiracy to damage energy facilities and possession of an unregistered firearm.<br \/>\nhe four substations that were targeted were the Graham and Elk Plain substations and the Kapowsin and Hemlock substations.<br \/>\nCrahan and Greenwood face up to 20 years in prison for the conspiracy charge and 10 years for possession of an unregistered firearm.<br \/>\nAccording to one local outlet, prosecutors are planning to ask for the two men to remain detained at the Federal Detention Center.<br \/>\nThe men were first identified as potential suspects through cellphone records and surveillance video, according to\u00a0U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington, Nick Brown.<br \/>\nPhotos taken of the accused at one of the Tacoma Power substations show a pickup truck and one man at the scene. A similar truck was connected to the incidents.<br \/>\nOfficials also said distinctive clothing worn by the suspects was found during a search.<br \/>\nWhile searching, agents also found two unregistered short-barreled guns.<br \/>\nOne of the guns seized was equipped with a makeshift silencer.<br \/>\nCrahan and Greenwood are set to appear in the\u00a0U.S. District Court in Tacoma\u00a0 Tuesday.<br \/>\nFurther charges may be pending.<br \/>\nLast week, one law enforcement official claimed those who carried out the attack may have been trying to &#8216;send a message.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-11596107\/Two-men-charged-power-substation-attacks-left-thousands-Washington-state-without-power.html\">Rt<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two men have been charged in attacks at four\u00a0Washington state\u00a0power substations that left 14,000 people with no power on Christmas\u00a0Day.
