{"id":33839,"date":"2024-10-24T01:52:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-24T06:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=33839"},"modified":"2024-10-31T21:26:01","modified_gmt":"2024-11-01T02:26:01","slug":"harvey-weinstein-cases-to-be-consolidated-into-single-trial-will-likely-occur-in-spring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=33839","title":{"rendered":"Harvey Weinstein cases to be consolidated into single trial, will likely occur in spring"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">A Manhattan judge on Wednesday granted a motion by prosecutors to combine Harvey Weinstein&#8217;s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/harvey-weinstein-indicted-new-york-grand-jury\/story?id=113599003\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">retrial on sex crimes charges<\/a>&nbsp;with his trial&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/harvey-weinstein-manhattan-court-arraignment-new-indictment\/story?id=113802403\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">on a new charge<\/a>&nbsp;of forcing oral sex on a woman in 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Prosecutors convinced Judge Curtis Farber to consolidate the cases into a single trial in part by arguing separate trials would be &#8220;extraordinarily inefficient.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Farber did not set a new trial date but suggested it would likely occur in the spring, displeasing the defense, which had hoped for a quicker resolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Weinstein is next due in court Jan. 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">He appeared in court in a wheelchair Wednesday following his&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/harvey-weinstein-diagnosed-chronic-myeloid-leukemia-sources\/story?id=115012038\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent bone marrow cancer diagnosis<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Weinstein is currently being held in prison on Rikers Island in New York, where he has experienced a slew of health issues amid his ongoing sexual assault trials.<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/harvey-weinstein-diagnosed-chronic-myeloid-leukemia-sources\/story?id=115012038\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">He has denied all claims of sexual misconduct, saying his encounters were consensual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">He pleaded not guilty to the new charge, based on the 2006 incident, last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">&#8220;Mr. Weinstein has been very consistent from the time of his investigation.
