{"id":3252,"date":"2023-01-03T07:00:54","date_gmt":"2023-01-03T13:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=3252"},"modified":"2023-03-15T02:47:54","modified_gmt":"2023-03-15T07:47:54","slug":"more-money-is-a-must-but-health-care-delivery-also-needs-a-major-rethink-doctors-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=3252","title":{"rendered":"<strong>More money is a must, but health-care delivery also needs a major rethink, doctors say<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Doctors say the pandemic broke a health-care system already functioning at full capacity<br \/>\nAs the premiers and the federal government continue to battle over health-care funding, leading doctors and experts say that while more government money is needed, the way health care is delivered in Canada also needs to change.<br \/>\nThe issue is dominating the national conversation now as patients find themselves let down by a shortage of doctors and nurses, overwhelmed pediatric hospitals and a backlog in necessary but elective surgeries.<br \/>\nThe Children&#8217;s&#8217; Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) recently had to accept staffing help from the Canadian Red Cross as it struggles\u00a0with a surge in hospitalizations caused by respiratory viruses like influenza, RSV and COVID-19.<br \/>\nAlex Munter, CHEO&#8217;s CEO, said the hospital has just experienced its &#8220;busiest May, June, July, September, October\u00a0and November&#8221; in its 50-year history.<br \/>\nThe Alberta Children&#8217;s\u00a0Hospital in Calgary\u00a0is facing a similar situation.
