{"id":29588,"date":"2024-07-13T02:33:27","date_gmt":"2024-07-13T07:33:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=29588"},"modified":"2024-07-13T02:33:36","modified_gmt":"2024-07-13T07:33:36","slug":"officer-on-motorcycle-struck-killed-by-alleged-drug-impaired-driver","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=29588","title":{"rendered":"Officer on motorcycle struck, killed by alleged drug-impaired driver"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">A police officer on a motorcycle was struck and killed by an alleged drug-impaired driver during a traffic stop in Northern California, according to authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Vacaville motorcycle officer Matthew Bowen was conducting a traffic stop Thursday morning when he was hit from behind by another car, the California Highway Patrol said.<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/gunman-large-after-ambushing-killing-deputy-assault-pizza\/story?id=111840828\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Bowen was taken to a hospital where he died, authorities said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The suspect, 24-year-old Serena C.J. Rodriguez, allegedly tried to run away from the scene, but she was stopped by bystanders who witnessed the crash, the highway patrol said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Authorities determined that Rodriguez was driving &#8220;while under the influence of drugs,&#8221; the highway patrol said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">She was arrested on charges of homicide and driving under the influence causing injury and\/or death, the CHP said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/helicopter-carrying-3-kauai-believed-crashed-ocean-officials\/story?id=111869885\"><\/a>Vacaville police officers are now mourning Bowen, who they said is survived by his wife, two sons, his parents and a brother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">&#8220;He has served with the highest level of dedication and honor, and his loss is deeply felt by the Department, the City and the community,&#8221; Vacaville police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Bowen joined the Vacaville Police Department one year ago.
